Seed of Hope

Earth: Year 3XXX The world as we know it had finally collapsed due to the nuclear wars between nations and powerhouses of Earth. At first, everyone was relatively safe in their homes but, after the first nuclear weapon was launched against Nation X, everything that humanity had worked hard on was wiped out — vanished. The wars engulfed the whole world, oceans evaporated, radiation permeated, living things burned and no stone was left untouched. Humanity naturally regretted taking this path and so, they once again banded together to save what was left of them. There was little they could work on and they had limited time. Their oxygen reserves were running low, food & water was also diminishing, only radiation was plentiful. How wondrous it is when humans work together but, perhaps it was too late. What was once in Billions have now turned into measly thousands. However, they persisted and have succeeded in their plan for survival. There was no plan B nor Plan C or any other plan. It was just a last resort plan. To send themselves into the cosmos and sleep in the ice inside their space shuttles until, maybe, a suitable planet is found. 9,000 lives went on their ice-caged space journey but, how many can lady luck set free? Join our survivors as they make themselves home in another world. PS: Not very inclined to Sci-Fi, just started it this way for convenience and plot.

---Earth year: 4XXX---

…tut…tut…tut…

A rhythmic sound reverberates throughout spaceship number 1X as it slowly glides through the cosmos. Numerous space bodies like planets and stars can be seen through its windows, if there was someone looking at the scene they are sure to be mesmerized by this profound scene.

A thousand years of travel and only one space shuttle survived the ordeal. Well, humanity had little hope of finding a suitable planet to begin with. Really, with the vastness of space, how can anyone just chance upon a planet that humans can survive on? The exterior of the space ship had numerous scar-like gashes that made its appearance somewhat strong — like a warrior that fought a thousand battles. This space-warrior housed 100 assorted humans. 50 of them which were most of them were of course, top officials or rich figures back on peace days of earth. The remaining individuals are the engineers, mechanic, crew of the ship, and the captain.

All 100 of them were inside capsules that ensure that they are iced and alive until the day their spaceship encounters a suitable planet and then the AI wakes them up. They were all like this until today that is.

…tut…tut…tut…

[Scanning complete: Suitable conditions met]

[Breaking dormancy of passengers in 3…2…1]

The sound of the spaceship's AI rang and the capsules began to whiring sound in strange sounds as if there was an alarm that went off to wake everyone on board. In about an hour, after numerous operations like injecting of medicines and awakening solutions into the bodies, the hearts of passengers started beating again and their breathing was restored and finally there was hope! That was how it was supposed to go. Among the 100 heads, only 4 youths woke up.

"PSshhhhH…" The first capsule opened.

"Urgh! W-wh..?" The youth was in a daze and was disoriented. He was about to ask but saw no one in sight when suddenly the AI assigned to his capsule sounded.

[Congratulations! We have arrived at our destination Mr. Genesis Barre. Kindly make your way to the lobby and report to the captain. Get ready to descend to th...ckshhhhh…]

' Weird.' Seeing the AI malfunction so suddenly, Genesis was irked. He was one of the triplet sons of the head engineer of all the spaceships built to last a thousand years of travel in order to find a suitable planet. Hence, his father, him and his 2 other twins together with his older brother Diesel obtained a slot for survival. They were one of the lucky ones.

'Wait. Why is it so quiet? Am I the only one awake?' Finally, he realized something that was maybe not supposed to happen. His father James Barre said that once a suitable planet is found, "all passengers aboard" should wake up. How can he be the only one who is awake? Genesis thought of all the things he could do while he managed himself, it is gonna take some time until he could move properly.

He and his twins were 16 when they departed from earth. Being the sons of a wealthy and successful engineer made them ignorant of the way things work, they only knew how to use them and that is it. Only their older brother Diesel takes up after James. Naturally, he did not know what he should do, so he waited a little longer and decided to go and try waking his father and siblings.

When he could finally move, he got up from the capsule despite his wobbly knees. He then went to look at the capsules near him. That was where his family should be but three capsules were open! "Ha! My brothers are awake HAHAHA!" Genesis was overjoyed by what he saw but his joy was short.

Genesis saw his father's capsule and grimaced. " Father…" What he saw was a black mush-like dusty body if you could even call 'it' a body. He wept and tears fell down his cheeks. A full grown man will weep after a loss of a loved one, how can a 16-year-old boy not? Genesis knelt in front of his father's capsule for a good amount of time and momentarily forgot that his brothers were somewhere in this ship.

While Genesis was still busy crying, 3 sets of hurried footsteps approached. "G-Genesis?! He's really awake!" Diesel, the eldest brother, shouted in joy! Tears of joy formed in his eyes and it almost flowed. "H-Hey genesis! We're here! Are you alright?!" Diesel shouted again while he approached.

"Genesis!" The other 2 brothers also joined in.

"Sniff… Brothers…Father is…" Without even turning his head to look at the approaching voices, Genesis replied. "H-He's gone."

The 3 then slowed down and went quiet as this also made them sad when they discovered that their father, the man who gave them a chance to survive the apocalypse, the man who took care of them and raised them was turned into whatever that is.

Diesel bent his knees too and joined Genesis. "Don't worry, he's now happy that we brothers are safe and together. Let's now waste this chance." Diesel comforted his little brother as he patted Genesis' head lightly.

"Sniff… You're right brother. Eh?! Who are you?!" Genesis shouted as he was shocked when he turned around to see his brothers' faces. He almost jumped back in fright if he had the strength but, right now he just woke up and had wept for his father's death.

"We're your siblings of course." Diesel blatantly said.

"Clay here. Hahahahahaha!" His eldest twin.

"Alexander." His youngest twin.

What Genesis got was three different replies. "Huh?! Then why are ya'll bearded?! Wait! Could it be?" As if to answer his own question, Genesis went to deep thought with what little brain power he had in his head. Fortunately, he realized it.

Sure his 'siblings' in front of him seemed to be older than the brothers that he knew but, looking closely, it was really them just a bit older than him. "That means…"

"Good work discovering the truth, Genesis. Clay here took about a week to finally discover the truth hahahaha!" Diesel had a good laugh almost like a middle aged man's laugh.

"Tsk! At least I was the one who steered the ship when an asteroid was on its way to crash us!" Clay was clearly unhappy with the remark and retorted.

"Stop. Is this really the time to leisurely squabble here?" Alexander said in disdain.

"Oh! Alex is right. Come now Gin, we will orient you after we eat at the cafeteria." Diesel said as he supported Genesis up and led him to eat.

Billions of people on earth to 4 individuals in this spaceship. How far can they go?
