The Vampire of Torrine - Preview

A first look at the next novel in the Dark Crest Series:

As time has gone on I’ve begun to forget who I used to be before I was transformed. As time has moved forward, faces, names, and dates have all blurred in my mind, but one thing that I’ve never been able to forget is the day that I met him. The day my fate was sealed, and I would fall to ruin.

For as far back as I can remember, I was always on the streets. Having no parents to care for me, the streets of Torrine became my home. Not able to find work, I was forced to steal and pickpocket to survive. That is where he found me.

August 14, 1396

I hadn't eaten for three days. I was starving. My stomach had begun eating itself alive. I was desperate. I HAD TO EAT. I set off from the alley, to the main street.

I skyward the booths, looking for an opportunity to steal something. The local bakery quickly caught my interests, the intoxicating smell of fresh baked bread filled my nostrils. I calmly walked into the bakery and pretended to be looking around. Once the man, at the desk, turned his back to serve another customer, I took the opportunity to grab a loaf of bread. I calmly walked to the exit, hoping not to look suspicious, but despite my efforts I was caught.

“Hey, you didn't pay for that!” The store owner yelled. I made a run for it! I dashed down the street, twisting and turning down different alleyways, hoping to elude them, but alas this attempt was met with no avail. I had run into a dead end. I turned to go back, but it was too late. They had caught up to me.

“Heh, you thought that you could steal from us?” The larger of the two men at the end of the alley, asked.

“I'm sorry, you can have it back-” The man's fist collides with my cheek, before I can finish. I fell to the ground and the two men began kicking me.

“Is this it? Is this the end?” I questioned, as my vision began to cloud. Then it stopped. The last thing I saw before it all went black, was a red-eyed man looking down at me, and my attackers on the ground next to me.
