Savage: The Night Wizard - (A Harry Potter Fanfic)

I was an ordinary boy with a simple life... That is, until the day I died... and now I don't even know what is common in my life anymore! But in reality... I prefer it like this. Who would like to be normal if you could be a wizard? Especially if you're the greatest wizard ever! Well... I don't. ****************************************** Also help me in Patrë-on /Se7enX, there are advanced chapters for you and it motivates me to write even more. Thanks for reading! ****************************************** Attention: I don't own Harry Potter or his world, and all of this belongs to JK Rowling. The only thing belonging to me are the OC's characters and some changes in the story.

Yeah! Here's the new chapter!

________________________________________________________________________________________

I also picked up the books "Duel Spells and the Base for a Warrior" and "Auror's Handbook from 1946", because they had dueling techniques and offensive and defensive spells.

You might think I don't need these books because I have my instincts, I took martial arts classes, and I have my own spells... But that's bullshit.

I may be arrogant, but I'm not a fool. Even though I know I could probably beat any student at school in a duel and even some adults *Cough!* Lockhart *Cough!*, I still don't have the confidence in my ability to win all my fights, and even the simplest duel can be of great importance.

I've read enough stories to know that being prepared is never too much.

...Thank you, Batman-Sensei...

I have some special skills, plot knowledge, years of training, and a repertoire of spells and attacks, but even so, I'm only strong enough to defeat Hogwarts students and a few inexperienced adult wizards. Against trained wizards, with years of experience and a lot of raw power, I still can and will be defeated, sigh.

And I know I'm going to end up being a target of these inbred bastards, as they won't accept that a muggleborn is better than their offspring. And your kids who are at Hogwarts can also try something against me... But if they try, I will retaliate 10 times worse.

I've been given a new chance to live, a new family, new friends, and a fucking special skill, and I'm not going to let it be destroyed by some idiots who think they're better than others just because their relatives fucked their others relatives.

I'm not going to duck my head and stay hidden. I will stand up to them, make them recognize me and fear me. I never wanted to participate in a war... In fact, I never imagined that I would have a chance to participate in one, but if they force my hand, and I know they will, I'll have to show them why the name Ethan Night has to be feared.

But even when I think and say all this, I get the feeling that I'm being rash, mainly because I would never think that way in my other life.

Sometimes I think I'm not the same Ethan...

Sigh. But now is not the time to get these dark thoughts, we are here to talk about the amazing books I found.

The book, The Art of Inscription and Runes, was a book that, as its title said, talked about runes and inscriptions.

Now, I know I've already bought some rune books for myself, but this book is over a thousand pages long just about all types of runes, which are in many different languages. And there's even a part of the book that details the creation of enchanted items and amulets.

Some of these were good for everyday life, like the refreshing amulet, which was good for hot days, and some were about protection, from protection from spells to protection from poisons. It even had some runes that served to launch attacks, something that got me very interested.

And some of the other amulets and inscriptions were about enchanted items like weapons, accessories, clothing, and to my delight... broomsticks!

I know it would be easier to buy a broom, and I already have the last one on the market, which is the Nimbus 2000, and I also know that Firebolt is going to launch in my third year. But just the thought of creating my own custom broom, with my own effort and my charms, gets me excited.

I know this would be a slow and time-consuming process, mainly because I would want to build a broom as fast as a Firebolt, and that could take years, years that I can't afford to waste. So I'm going to read about building brooms, buy one of the last generation's brooms, take it apart and try to understand how it works, and if I see it feasible to build one, I'll add that to my plans.

'Hmm, speaking of Firebolt, I know that this year they are looking for partnerships and people to invest in their brooms, and as I know they will be very successful I might as well shell out some Galleons to invest in them' I thought, starting to plan in my mind, 'When Christmas comes around I go to Gringotts to talk to Sharpfang about it, and maybe I'll even think about investing in other wizard companies since so far I've only invested in muggle companies '

"Well that's something for the future so let's get back to the books," I said, looking at my stack of books with hunger in my eyes and an excited smile on my face.

I then sat down at the table and picked up one of the books from the pile.

The book I took was "Occlumency: A Mind and Its Barriers", which was an old but well kept book, black leather, with turquoise blue accents... Or what I think is turquoise blue.

Fuck it, I'm not a color encyclopedia.

*Cough!* But back to the book... I picked it up and opened it, and on the first page of the book there was already a warning, saying that Occlumency was a difficult and complex spell, and other warnings that I decided to ignore...

Just kidding, I obviously read the warnings, but none of them were something I didn't already know, so I turned the page and started reading the book seriously.

_____________________________________________________________________

After reading a few chapters of the book, I found some interesting things.

The first thing I discovered is that there are different ways to protect the mind using occlumency. You can blank your mind so that no legilimence can find your thoughts, but this form of protection only serves to prevent someone from reading your mind, it doesn't come with the other abilities of occlumency, which is emotional control, the memory improvement, and quick thinking. And that kind of occlumency was what Snape was trying to teach Harry in the fifth book.

Another way to use occlumency is to force some memory, thought, and even a personality or emotion to the front of your mind, so you would be tricking your own mind and controlling what the attacker would be seeing. And that was the form of Occlumency that Draco used to keep Dumbledore from reading his mind in the sixth book, where he let his bully personality take over his mind. And that was also Harry's way of preventing Voldemort from reading his mind, as he kept forcing his emotions and thoughts of love towards his parents and Sirius, and love was a feeling that had a strong effect on our Lord of the Darkness.

However, this type of occlumency also doesn't give the wizard emotional control, memory enhancement or fast thinking, and that's why it's mostly used by beginners occlumences.

Another type of occlumency, which is more advanced than the two previous ones, is also the most used, at least by intermediate and advanced occlumency.

This type of occlumency works better if the wizard has good magical control, as this occlumency doesn't just use some thoughts or emotions. This is where the complexity of the art of protecting the mind begins.

Create barriers, false memories, mental palace, labyrinths and traps, etc. All of this is only possible when you reach a decent level of occlumency and control of your magic, as all of this requires a connection to the user's "magic core".

But this occlumency has several subtypes, and varies from wizard to wizard, and family to family. And unfortunately the book doesn't give us any information about these sub-types, as they are particular to each wizard or wizarding family, and no one wants their secrets or techniques lying around.

End.

________________________________________________________________________________________

(End AN: Many of you talked about Ethan's ease of learning occlumency, and even though I found some of the points pointed out flawed, I already had a reason why he was so good. And remember, even though occlumency is an advanced spell, it's not a powerful spell created by Merlin, so someone learning it easily shouldn't be all that amazing.

And Ethan now has a few more studies to do. What do you think his animago will be? Will he have one? So many questions...

Hope you like the chapter!)
