After that fateful summer evening, where all links to her life falling apart had been torn by the seams. When the sun had set, those who had pulled her loved ones away: Dead. Before running away with the hands of guidance, to start a new life. With only her mentor, and father by her side. It had been a long journey for her. Rising from the fires of hell to only burn brighter than ever. Amelia Rae Reston, now at the top of her game: Leader of the BAU. Excelling in the police academy, graduating early and at the top of her class. Life has finally seemed to shine bright in her favor, after all the chaos. However, things always happen for a reason. The sun can only be a part of the sky, and darkness soon falls. The routine of her success becomes comfort, until one faithful day. When the heads of the young, old, and withered begin to appear in familiar patterns. Perhaps the dead, lived amongst her once more. A man she thought buried six feet below. Under that fateful day’s setting sun.
Jake tilts his head to the side, his sinister smile stretching further. "It's been a month since our deal, almost two ideally. Yet you've only done one job for me."
"I may not have killed dear daddy yet, but if ya don't it hurry up that won't be the case much longer."
He was really starting to piss her off, every time she saw him. Amelia wanted to put a bullet directly between his eyes, to end it all. Yet there is no true understanding of how much he had under his sleeves. If there were others waiting at his command if he was taken out, Amelia couldn't risk it.
Jake wiggles his fingers in amusement, a little hum on his lips. "You'll be forcin' me to use my hands."
"I know, I've got the next person on your list. I haven't forgotten." She pushes his fingers out of her face. "Don't treat me like I'm some imbecile." Amelia snarls, learning forward to assert dominance.
Yet he chuckles at her words, taking the back of his hand to graze over her cheek. Feeling the cold touch of his rough skin, not even moving a muscle as his fingers stroked against her. Amelia couldn't stand the feeling of it, but did not shy away from his touch. If she did, it would only show him he was feared. Their eyes stayed locked to one another, two dominating souls against one another.
"I would never. After what we shared."
"Don't. Don't bring that up. We didn't share shit."
Jake smiles smugly, turning on his heels before waltzing in the other direction. Slowly, spinning on his soles as he grabs his almost empty glass with ease. Humming a light tune from his lips, crossing one leg over the other as he leans against the granite top.
"Amelia, Amelia. Ya may believe that you can be one step ahead of me." He presents himself, hands coming out to either side in extension. "However…I'm always gonna be plannin' five steps ahead. I already know what ya gonna do next."
Her hands ball into fists at his egotistical display, his confidence with his unfair advantage. He felt power from his own manipulation, holding the things she held most valuable to her. Jake was nothing but smug, Amelia couldn't stand it. There was nothing she could even tolerate of him, even before his dramatic change.
Jake was no longer who he used to be– Who she had loved so dearly. That picture was nothing but a memory in the back of her mind. The good times only came with the rushing of bad ones. The death around them, all because of his sick obsession.
They could have stayed in love, as much as it could have been.
Life produced many pains within the world, and she had experienced all of them. The most painful part was losing him. Not to someone else, but to himself.
He could have gone down a completely different path, he could have lived a normal life. That life could have been filled with joy, rewarding bliss. A life shared together, one blossoming of the next generation.
Children, their children. They would never exist, no children should suffer the burden of them as parents. Both completely out of their minds.
One in denial, the other too far gone.
Their entire future was ruined, it was all his own fault. Trying to secure a future with his inhuman methods, only tore the hopes of it away. Anger boiled with no stopping point inside of her, hands clenching too tight. Eyebrows furrowing as her eyes narrowed at his back turning away from her.
He was relishing in the moment, it tipped her over the edge.
In an instant, Amelia lunges towards him. Groaning, arms reached out with long strides to grip his hair. Jake has no chance to react, Amelia's hand on the back of his head pushing with brute force to smash his head into the kitchen table. He hollers, the sound of snapping following his scream.
Jake pulls his head up, quickly turning to get the upper hand. His hand wraps around Amelia's throat, squeezing under her jaw with no mercy. There was a struggle for him to get a finalized grip on her, but he ends up winning it in the end. She gasps, clawing her hands at his wrist– Eyes widened as the oxygen becomes fickle.
His nose was no doubt broken, blood trickling from one of his nostrils down to his lips. His tongue trails over the drops of blood, a rough grunt coming from his throat. No sign of true pain on his face, only furry laced in his features. Jake grits his teeth, pulling Amelia's face just inches from his own.
She could feel her eyes beginning to close, the vision of him showing double. Her heart was pounding in her ears at a rapid pace. If he was angry enough perhaps he would kill her. There was nothing tying him to not take her out as he pleased.
"Don't make me do somethin' I'll regret, Amelia." He squeezes tighter, having Amelia gasp louder. "I could make ya still right now. I like playin' with ya, but don't be gettin' any smartass ideas."
Jake lets go of her throat, and Amelia drops with a large huff. Holding onto the kitchen table to not fall onto the ground, coughing to get air into her lungs. Eyes squeezed shut, a hand on her chest. He seems to laugh at her display, Amelia's eyes slowly opening to see him.
He now stood at an open window in the kitchen, hooking one of his legs to the outside of it over the frame. "Remember Amelia, I'm always watchin' you." He salutes her with two fingers, swooping his other leg over to sit. "Lil' Doll."
With a laugh, he jumps off of the window sill. The echo of his laughter filling her ears, the empty glass he left on the table taunting her. It was as easy as a window for him to enter her father's home, and now it was just as easy to leave it.
The world would take out the most valued, good souls, yet Jake still roamed the Earth. Just like all the other sick fools who decided their lives were more important than others. That they were able to kill as if God's whim demanded it.
It was the lousy excuse they all gave, their reasoning for their actions. Jake would be the same no doubt, Jake would say he was God. She knew too much of his delusion, Amelia couldn't look at him the same way ever again. That misunderstood bad boy, now a bloodthirsty animal.
Time really changed people, the cliches were true.
Amelia looks towards the window, the gentle breeze pushing the curtains of the empty window sill. She trudged forward, placing her hands on the window to look out of it. In her view was nothing but darkness, only the glistening stars that shimmered against the pale moon. A once beautiful sight, turned nasty as everything else.
She places her hand on her neck, tensing up as she feels the pain shoot through her. Bruising already surfaced on her skin, wrapped around the entirety of her throat. Amelia was continuously covered in markings, scars that would truly never heal.
Hands grip on top of the sill, staring out into the night.
"I will kill you."
Those words would be engraved in her soul, until they came true. The end would never be the two of them living in the same world. Either Jake, or Amelia would live on. Amelia was determined to be the last one standing.
If he played dirty, maybe it was time for her to play nasty.
