The hospital released Ryanne a few days later. Because of someone hurting her, a family member had to stay with her at all times. Nighttime was the worse because she would wake up screaming. Since she learned Shay had found her, she grew an attachment to him. It proved to a cause of concern.

We were still iffy about Shay. I also got a cast on my hand. When Val stopped by, it surprised her.

/"So, you’re telling me while I was elsewhere, someone attacked your sister. You discovered Shay is the kidnapped son of a distant family member. You broke your hand./"

/"Yeah, pretty much./"

I watched Val pace, then take a seat next to me on the bed.

/"I need to stop leaving./"

/"Why did you leave?/"

/"I had to see a heart specialist. They think they can help me, but it would involve a transplant./"

/"Are you waiting for a transplant?/"
