RWBY: A Matter of Perspective

"Where do Monsters come from?" A simple question with a deceptively complicated answer if it could even be called that. Monsters are made by us after all, who else could? "What about heroes then, where do they come from?" A not so different question with a not so different answer. We make them ourselves. Who else would? One might now ask, "what's the difference then?" To that a confusing answer, as the difference is in who is telling the story as there is no more complex illusion than simplicity, and honesty is but a fairy tale: a lie. Nothing more. Nothing less. ----------. Fanfics tend to be pretty cringe. With most out there being either super-OP characters that can sneeze wrong and the world explodes, overly edgy mc that makes it hard to read, or just blatant sexual fantasies, it's no surprise why people avoid them. With this novel I aim to try to make an actual story with actual characters. This is my first time writing anything beyond schoolwork, so don't expect much. That being said, while I may not have a degree in English, I have been speaking it most of my life my life and that comes with at least a little confidence, so the grammar wont be abysmal at the very least.

Sapphire POV:

Blake and I returned to a rather silent room. The only noise to be heard was that of the shuffling of clothing as it got packed away. We entered silently as to not disturb them, but it seems the sound of the door closing alerted them to our presence.

"Welcome back," I heard from both Yang and Ruby.

Weiss just glanced at us then continued packing. I am a little disappointed in that. I don't really want to spend four years on a team with someone who hates me, but there's nothing I can do about it.

"Hello," I answered back as I looked around the room, and awkwardly waved at Weiss.

The walls were cleared of any posters or paintings that hung from them. The curtain was taken down, and most of the shelves were cleared of books. It seems only Blake's stuff remains scattered about and the rest were already putting their stuff into boxes.

Blake immediately got to work grabbing books off the shelves and putting them into a box. Her methods seemed rather inefficient though as she was seemingly grabbing books at random. I went to what I assume was her desk and start clearing the shelves above it. The books all seemed academic-related which makes sense as they were above her desk. There was however one or two books that didn't seem that they belong, but I didn't question it and brought the books to Blake Who was clearing the shelf under the window.

It didn't take long before the only books not packed were toe ones supporting that terrifying bunk bed.

"What about those?" I said gesturing to the remaining books.

"Uhm, let's get those after I pack my clothes," She says and walks over to the room's closet.

She didn't have a lot of clothes so it didn't take long for it all to be put away. The others had been done for a few minutes already and were waiting on us with their stuff in the front of the room. Blake and I moved her now-packed things to the front as well.

The next step is to deconstruct the bunk beds and return them to what they were before.

I see Yang walk over to the right side of the headboard of her bed, and ask, "Can someone help me with this?"

I quickly move to the footboard and help her lift it off of the books and subsequently bed underneath. We couldn't move it all the way to the wall as Yang was lifting from that side. As soon as she got out of the way, I lifted the lower half of the bed and moved it over to the wall. Then I did the same to the headboard side. The bed was in place.

The books were already retrieved by their respective owners, and so we moved on to the other side of the room.

Weiss, Blake, and Ruby had already moved Weiss's bed to the wall, and are currently struggling to bring Ruby's back to the ground. Yang and I move over, and with our assistance, the bed was quickly returned to its place on the ground. The room has been returned to normal.

"Alright! Now, to move our stuff into the bigger dorm," I hear Ruby state.

"Where is our new room, anyway?" Yang asks the question in my head.

"Oh right! I forgot to tell you guys where it is," Ruby replies, " It's on the top floor, room 4-38."

"Haah, that's three flights of stairs…." I hear Yang complain.

"Yeah, sorry," I apologize.

"For What?" Yang replies confused with my apology.

"You wouldn't have to go through so much trouble if I wasn't put on your team," I explain.

"Don't beat yourself up; it's not your fault," Yang says while patting me on the back, "Besides, If it means you don't have to sleep on the floor, I'd go up many more stairs if I had to," She finishes with a smile.

"Yeah, don't worry about it," Ruby adds, and Blake nods.

Weiss again says nothing.

"Okay hears the plan, Team RWBYS. Take the biggest and heaviest things first, then work our way down to the smallest and lightest, lets go!" Ruby dramatically states.

We all voice our agreement except for Weiss who just sighs at Ruby's antics. We each grabbed some of the bigger boxes and took them to our new room, but when we got there we noticed a note on the door.

It read, "I have heard rumors of certain hazardous make-shift bunkbeds in your old dorm. I decided instead of letting you make them again here, I will just have actual bunk beds installed. - Professor Ozpin"

Ruby seemed a little upset at that, but I'm not gonna lie that note brought me some relief. I would rather not sleep on one of those things. I shift the box I am carrying over to my left hand, and pull out my scroll with my left. I unlock the door and open it.

Inside is a room a decent size larger than the one before. Inside there are three beds, two of which are bunk beds, and five desks. There is the singular bed positioned below the window with a bookshelf to its left and a desk to its right. To the left of the bookshelf is one of the bunk beds with a sizable gap between it and the wall. To the right of the desk is another bunk bed with a similar gap between it and the wall. There are two desks in each corner on the entrance side of the room.

I also notice the trunk with my things in it sitting in the middle of the room with what I assume are my school supplies on top of it. I see a couple of sets of the uniform, a bunch of books, some paper, notebooks, and some pencils. The uniforms consist of a red plaid skirt, stockings of various lengths, and a brown jacket with a tan vest and a white shirt with a red ribbon tied at the collar.

The team takes the time to look around the room but Ruby brings us back on track.

Ruby clapped her hands and said, "Alright, we can look around after we are done. Let's finish bringing everything here."

With the direction from our glorious leader, we continue to bring stuff over until the old dorm is empty and the new one full.

"Okay, now to decide who sleeps where," Ruby states with enthusiasm.

"Why not keep what we had before, and give Sapph the middle one," I hear Yang suggest.

"That seems fine," Blake agrees to Yang's suggestion.

"I like the top bunk so that's fine with me," Ruby also agrees.

"I see no reason to object," Weiss finally speaks to my, and apparently everyone else's surprise.

A second goes by as everyone silently stares at Weiss with slight shock.

"What!?" She yells in response to the stares, "Just because things got awkward doesn't mean I just going to be silent all the time!"

"Uhm, okay," I state awkwardly, but as I would rather not endure the wrath of the ice queen I move on.

"I'm fine with that, but, Sapph?" I bring the conversation back with an agreement, but I am confused as to why my name was suddenly shortened. We haven't even properly introduced ourselves, and I am already receiving a nickname. I mean I'm not complaining, I'm just confused as to why.

"Your name is long, I shortened it to Sapph, don't mind it," Yang answers my implied question, and I understand.

I mean, it makes sense when you look at their names, Ruby, Blake, Yang, and Weiss, compared to mine, Sapphire. All of their names are rather short compared to mine, and out of all of them, only Ruby's has more than a single syllable. Yang shortened mine in order for it to fit with theirs, and as I am fine with the nickname, I don't complain.

"That's fine, feel free to call me that if you wish," I say with a smile.

With that conversation over, the team, including me this time, unpack our things. I quickly claim the desk next to my bed and place my school books on the shelves above it. I neatly arrange my notebooks, papers, and pencils on the desk for ease of use, and move set the uniform on my bed for now.

I pick up my now uncovered trunk and set it next to my bed, and start to unpack.
