Alexander with the other scientists has been working non-stop on a way to remove the impurities from the steel.

They tried silicon, calcium, aluminium, and many other elements.

Silicon, calcium, and aluminium can indeed remove the impurities but silicon isn't doing it that well, calcium is expensive to get, and Aluminium? Don't even mention it, its more expensive then gold and very hard to produce

Reacts with the oxygen and the rest of the impurities forming MnO which then floats to the top as a slag, it not only manages to De-oxidze but can also react with the sulfur Forming MnS which also goes into the slag that can be easily removed.

To prevent excessive temperatures that then damage the crucible a little bit of scrap iron will be thrown in. And then repeat."
