Ruler Of The Abyss

He was an addict, loser and gambler, he had turned his back on his family. That was his life on Earth. After dying he corrected his ways and set out to be a hero through training and courage rather then being an ordinary villager or a useless drunk he wanted to do something with his life. He ended up dying at the hands of his fellow humans. He decided that if he was reborn then he wouldn’t be kind, clearly that didn’t go well. “If the world doesn’t want me to be good then I’ll be the ruler of shadows.” He was an addict, loser and gambler, he had turned his back on his family. Darkness

Spending his time in darkness Vita did find some comprehension of the three words that were given to him yet he found sim altitudes with the other elements which confused him as the darkness overwhelmed everything like fire, in the light it dawgs as shadows similar to water, like air it could fill every space, like earth it could protect, it protects from view. Despite knowing this he only knew that he could use darkness magic so unless he could learn a cultivation technique for all other elements then he wouldn't find out if he could use others just by having an understanding. Some elements he still could not find links for as he was still too new at this comprehension thing. In his past life he got stronger after fighting and his mana core grew which allowed his sleep to be stronger through his food so he really had no idea what he was doing so it was all difficult to guide a small amount of energy that appears as pitch black into his body and send it through a certain path and into his chest.

Vita was reminded from something he heard in his first life 'If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.' After thinking about it for some time he realised that if he could send his soul into a small part of a shadow that he manipulated, he too could see through it like he could when he controlled the shadows to tell them where to go.

He decided to call this comprehension 'observation.' It was easy to remember and didn't have any of those fancy names that most techniques did. Why can't it just be called cultivation technique for below level 1. That would be so much easier. I guess that I should try to get my soul to a higher level as I can't comprehend anything more.

Inside his cell, Vita was now staring fixedly at a piece of paper in his hands. The process seemed hard, as beads of sweat ran down his forehead and his eyes kept trying to close to find relief.

'This is fucking hard! Keep going, keep going! Fucking eyes stay open!'

Vita was completely focused on his task and ignored the shadows around him.

As time went on, his hands started to tremble and his eyes became redder and bloodshot.

Inside his sea of consciousness.

Waves kept surging in the world around. Slowly going to the edges and crashing with all of its force. Vita's half-transparent figure was standing with eyes closed. A deep frown and look of pain was present on his face.

The waves would crash on the borders of the sphere (the sphere is his sea of consciousness it's shaped as a sphere now) enlarging its circumference by few millimeters every time. As this process kept going the sea level would lower and by then it was already covering less than a quarter of the sphere.

Vita abruptly folded the sheet containing the rune and let a long breath out while lying on the floor with arms spread open.

'I feel that my head is about to explode! My sight seems confused if that's a thing and even thinking makes the pain worse. Terrifying, this kind of training is terrifying! And I feel so sleepy too."

Some knocks sounded from the door of his room.

Vita cursed a bit in his mind, only to feel again an increase of pain that made him curse again.

'Has it been a month already? Abadon tell them I need sleep. Work harder at making my soul stronger this was is just too draining, I'll only do it before I go to sleep at dawn.'
