“Cam was down, barely conscious. She must have been thrown by the blast. I couldn’t do anything for the two men, so I thought it best just to get her out of there before police came to investigate. There was a lot of black smoke. You could see it from all over, all the way back to Baltimore.” Pauly stopped and rubbed his face. He was skipping from thought to thought. “I’m just glad that the full blast didn’t get her. That would be a horrible way to die.”

“Do you know who the men were?” Maggie asked.

Pauly looked up at her in horror. “I think one of them was the deputy police commissioner!”

Maggie sighed. Her hand covered her mouth in thought.

“Cameron, honey, can you remember what happened?” she asked, her hand on Cam’s arm.

Cam looked up at her, then down at her hands in thought. She looked confused, not quite sure where she was.

“Who were the men, sweetie?” Maggie urged gently.
