“I suppose you might say that. She works for my brother.”
Karen nodded as she thought through it. “Well, you’ll probably have your hands full. No, there’s no need to take care of a hospital bill. I won’t admit her. This bed was empty. If they need it, they’ll move her somewhere else. Just let her sleep. She should be fine when she wakes up. I’ll leave a prescription at the nurse’s station in case she wakes up with nausea.”
“I know that your time isn’t free, doctor,” Sonya began.
“Nonsense,” Karen interrupted her, giving a shrug. “What are old friends for? At least it wasn’t anything serious…this time.”
“Thank you.”
Karen took one last look at Cam, then left.
“It’s too bad you didn’t have an ex who was a lawyer,” Sonya proffered as she looked at Cam. “She might have kept you out of jail.”
