“He was my boss. He paid well.” Cameron tried to keep a cavalier tone in her voice.

“You could have gotten away by yourself and kept all the money. No one would have ever known. You could be in Fiji now enjoying the sun.”

“Well, as they say, hindsight in twenty/twenty. I guess it didn’t cross my mind in time. Of course, the money’s still at Nick’s house and I dohave a key!”

“Well, I would never suggest doing something like that.” Bradford paused. “I hope you don’t think I’m cross-examining you but I am curious. How did someone with a Radcliffe education, a masters in international affairs and a career in Law Enforcement end up baby-sitting a small-time cocaine importer in Baltimore, Maryland?”

“All that Ivy League stuff got wiped out when I got arrested.” Cam fell back into the story that she’d perfected with Maggie. “Not much else for an ex-convict.”
