Chapter 80

Soon Mr. Bradford’s assistant came into the outer office.

“Come on in, Cameron,” he said, holding the door open. As she walked through, he said, “We hear that there have been some disturbing occurrences in the Gardiner family.”

That’s one way to put it,she thought.

He ushered her through the inner doors, down a corridor to the big office. Bradford was reading through some papers as she and Jack walked in.

“Cameron,” he said, getting up just enough to shake her hand. He gestured to the seat in front of his desk. “Come in and sit down.”

Jack closed the door but stood in front of it.

“I was so sorry to hear about Nick!” The lawyer charm oozed from him. Cam could just imagine how sorry he was.

“Yes, right after we left here,” she said, feigning innocence. “They still don’t know if he’ll live.”

Bradford exchanged looks with Jack very quickly. Cam couldn’t tell what they meant.
