Chapter 52

“What do you think?” he asked her.

Cam took a breath. Hopefully, they thought she was on their side. “I agree with Nick. Give her something to get her out of the way for the time being.”

“Yes, we can always spin it around if something comes out; and we can always say we were investigating all this time,” Nick added. “It’ll give us time.”

“All right. Do it,” the mayor finally agreed. “Can you have something for tomorrow?”

Nick nodded his head. “I’ll give you something tomorrow morning.”

Three men looked at one another, finally in agreement.

“Why don’t you go home, Frank, and get some sleep. You look exhausted. Nick and I can finalize this. You don’t need to worry about it.” Bradford looked the mayor in the face.

The mayor took a deep breath. “I guess you’re right. I’m no good here.” He picked up his coat that he had thrown on the back of the couch. “You’ll let me know what I have to say?” he asked Nick.

“As always. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
