Wafer

Lucette sat on the cold ground. Her short curly hair swayed with the wind. Her red vest was wet with droplets of rain which stopped falling a while ago. She looked at the vast land in front of her in a daze.

As she felt suffocated in her room, she walked away to clear her mind. Her feet brought her here, where she met the wolf for the first time.

The place brought her the peace and calmness she missed the past three days.

The words that the woman said affected her deeply. It was like a slap in her face that reminded her of who she really was.

Her thoughts for the past two months were meaningless.

She felt that whatever she did, no one would appreciate it.

Lucette closed her eyes. How much she wanted to shout out and tell the pack about her identity, and she would assure them she could be a deserving Luna.

Dropping her eyelashes. If she did that, she would be a laughing stock, and the alpha would throw her away without blinking.

Letting the wind caress her face. The cold here was cooler than in her kingdom. The winter there was harsh, but she was used to it. The seasons there were similar, six months was a harsh winter, while the other was a soft season, but it still freezing.

Miranda always complained when the eighth month arrived. She would hurry and stack teas and herbs, drinking them whenever she had time.

'Miranda, I wish you were here with me,' Lucette murmured. She needed some advice, and the only person whom she could rely on was her one and only caretaker.

Suddenly, something wet touched her cheeks, making her jolt.

"You scared me," she said, wiping the saliva with her long sleeves and then patting her chest.

The brown wolf walked closer and sat beside her. Putting its head closer to her legs, Lucette put her hand on his back and stroked his long, soft, and adorable fur.

"Your fur is so soft," she said, enjoying the sensation every time she caressed its fluffy fur.

Lucette stared at the wolf's head. "I'm feeling depressed. My life had never been easy. And now, after I got my chance to change it, everything seems without meaning."

She lowered her head, and tears formed in her eyes, but she didn't let them fall. She would never let herself be pitied by anyone.

The wolf gazed at her and purred. "Are you consoling me?" it purred again. Lucette smiled, knowing that she wasn't alone. In the past, Miranda would comfort her.

"It's so sad I don't understand you. Should I contact someone from the pack to help me understand?" she suggested, and the wolf growled, lifting its head.

Lucette shivered. A moment ago, he was like an obedient pet, and now it transformed into a menacing wolf.

"I won't do that. Calm down," She said, retreating, and the wolf lowered its head.

'Did I say something wrong?' she thought.

Hannah told her that wolves from a pack communicate with each other very well, but the brown wolf beside her seemed an exception!

Remembering something, Lucette asked, "Wolf? Do you have a name?" she couldn't possibly call it 'wolf' forever.

The wolf moved his head as if nodding.

'So it had, but how can she know it?' Lucette looked at him. "What is your name?" she asked, hoping to get him to shift, but the wolf growled and stared at her.

She sighed in defeat. The wolf was more strong-headed than she expected.

An idea popped into her mind, and she smiled and said, "I will name you then! What shall I name you… Mmm… I found it! Wafer. It's a good name, isn't it?"

The wolf moved his head randomly.

"I know you are happy about the name. I chose it right." She laughed.

Meanwhile, the wolf stood up. (°-°)

"Wafer, when I was young, my mother bought me a small cat. Its colour was completely black, so I named it Chocolate. You are brown. Should I name you Brownie?" she murmured the last part. Seeing two shiny orbs looking at her, she gulped. "The name Wafer is good. I won't change it."

The wolf purred. Lucette patted its head. 'It must love the name. That's why. But why I am feeling a dangerous vibe from the wolf.'

Inside a well-designed living room adorned by expensive items, two men sat opposite each other. One of them was talking on his phone while the other was peeling an orange.

The older man listened to the voice on the other side of the phone with a frown. "You've changed the plan. We never agreed on attacking the southern border."

The man relaxed more on his black sofa. "I did it to avoid suspicion. If I attacked the northern side, the alpha would know the target and protect her. The next time we will succeed."

"There will be no other time," the voice was so loud that the man frowned deeper.

"Why?" he asked

"I will never work with you again."

The man laughed, showing his golden tooth. "Did your conscious rush back? It's too late. If your alpha knew your betrayal, he would kill you without feeling a bit of guilt. Let me remind you, he killed his brother-in-law two months ago, or did you forget? If you don't think about yourself, think about your mate," he said, then hung up.

"As expected from my uncle, no one had ever beat him in playing with people's hearts," the young man praised him, and he laughed.

"Nigel, understand this. Power is everything in this world."

With his power, he could be an alpha.

The man nodded. "But, are you sure that person will not betray us?"

"No, he will not. I have a winning ship by my side," he said, taking a piece of orange in his mouth. Feeling the sourness, the frown on his face deepened.

Putting the orange on the wooden table. "Just a little. And you will have what you deserve, Nigel," he said, staring at his nephew's glowing golden eyes.

He would allow no one to trample him anymore. 'Ferdinand, the grandson you looked up highly. I will make him fall into the abyss. And you will return what you stole from us years ago!'
