Rise to Fall

Jason was a hard-working young man and avid reader of WebNovels who had a solid routine. Wake up, Eat, Work, Read WebNovels, Sleep. Wake up the next day and repeat. One day, on his way to work, he finds a purple jewel that attracts him deeply. That same day, he kills himself in a strange way by jumping from the building where he lived. When he woke up, Jason found himself in a vast expanse of black void, lost and confused. His confusion didn't last long, as a figure soon appeared on the horizon and introduced himself to him as God. After a few setbacks and a curse attached to him, Jason is sent to Ukrat, a magical world of infinite possibilities. This world is going through its Ascensionist Age, an age where it is possible to ascend to a literal God. Thrown into this world, Jason has only his three requests granted to him by the God and a powerful purple energy to try to keep up with the absurd geniuses that are born left and right every day, explore ruins lost in the depths of history, deal with crazy legacies, survive his curse and survive this era where danger comes even from his own shadow. Ignorant, Jason remains unaware that the intriguing webs woven by a God are stronger and more complicated than they seem. Only fate will tell which is stronger, his will or the ropes that manipulate him. ------- This is a slow story. It will take me as long and as many words per chapter as it takes to properly write what I want to convey to you, my readers.

New World [1]

When I woke up, what greeted me after a good sleep was a blinding white light. It resembled the famous "White Light at the End of the Tunnel" that people describe after experiencing near-death moments.

I constantly felt something pushing my body towards the white light. As I was pushed, muffled screams and soothing voices mixed in my ears. All this told me what I needed to know now.

'I'm in a woman's womb, about to be born.' I thought incredulously.

In my memories, based on the WebNovels I'd read, the normal thing would be for me to take over the body of a talented 15-year-old by force. Starting from scratch as a baby would be agonizing, to say the least.

Imagine having to wait years for your body to develop before you can start planning something, how agonizing that is. What am I going to do all this time? Have a cute laugh to please my parents? Spend the day lying on a crib staring at the ceiling?

'No, no, no! I don't want that, restart! Do your job properly, you lazy God!'

As I screamed at the injustice committed against me, a small light bulb flashed in my mind, turning my attention to something else.

"My memories..." Apparently, he had decided to work on this part properly. Just as agreed, my memories were back, but for some reason, some of their parts seem a bit hazy and strange. I can't access them, as if they didn't exist.

I tried to force myself to remember them, but I couldn't. It was as if there was a barrier preventing me from accessing them.

Preventing me from continuing my investigation was the white light that abruptly became even stronger. I was getting closer and closer to being born. I began to prepare myself psychologically for it. Putting up with at least five years of idle life shouldn't be so difficult, should it?

"Come on, Melissa, a little more, just a little more, I can see the baby's head now, push harder, it's almost there."

What sounded like a lady's voice echoed in my ears, making me anxious and waiting for what was about to happen. It felt like I was about to start my new life.

'Sigh. Whatever it is, I'm just going to try to live this new life to the full. If everything the God told me is true, this will be fun... as long as I don't die early, of course.' I thought to myself, trying to accept the reality of the tedious times ahead.

"Urrghhhh! I can't take it anymore! How much further?!" Shouted a young female voice, her voice haggard and tired as if she had run a marathon.

Reassuringly, the lady's voice replied: "Just a little, just a little more, you're doing great, Melissa. You can do it. Now, push as hard as you can, there's just one last little push to go and it'll be over, okay?"

After his words were spoken, I felt an enormous force pushing me further into the white light. A few moments later, I felt as if I had burst a bubble.

The extremely pure air invaded my nostrils, assaulting my senses with the size of its purity that I'm not used to, the sounds of my mother's panting, the old woman's sigh of relief, the wood crackling in the fireplace...

'A fireplace? You mean this is one of those magical medieval worlds?! Hahaha, please be that!'

Those kinds of worlds are the ones I'd most like to read about. In a way, technology, incredible though it is, becomes boring and mundane when the whole world is full of it. And let's face it, medieval worlds have their charms.

Changing the subject, being born again... it's incredible. Just imagining the challenges and adventures I'm going to experience in this world, the people I'm going to meet, the magical things I'm going to learn, etc. All of this has made me extremely eager to enjoy this life to the full.

That's what I always wanted, that's what I always dreamed of in my past life, that's what I longed for every night when I lay my tired head and body on the hard mattress and pillows after an exhausting day at work. That's what I needed. And now I had it.

But something wasn't right.

While I was anxious and expectant, an overwhelming sinister sensation filled my senses and sent a sharp pain through my small chest, making me scream and cry out loud.

"Congratulations, Melissa, it's a boy. The birth was successful, everything is fine now. The boy is healthy, crying harder than a newborn calf hehe...." As the eerie feeling took hold of me, the old woman wrapped me in a cloth, handing me over to my mother with a soft laugh.

Or that's what she tried to do.

"Melissa? Are you all right?" She asked with me in her arms.

After a while in silence, her voice, now desperate, sounded again.

"Melissa! For Mana, wake up, come on! You don't want to let your son grow up without even knowing his mother, do you? Come on, come on, wake up!" Her screams echoed in the room, mixed with my crying, the desperation palpable in your voice.

Unfortunately for her - and for me too - her cries went unanswered, blown away like leaves falling from trees.

My mother - my new mother - was no longer breathing. She died shortly after giving birth to me.
