Chapter 16

A little time had passed and Oliver was walking down the street at night, wearing his overcoat while leaving both hands in his pockets.

His brow was furrowed as he thought.

'It's only been a while since class ended, but in all this time, that strangeness hasn't gone away.'

He continued to walk towards his building and that feeling had only disappeared after taking the subway to return home, making him think.

'Whatever was there doesn't seem to have followed me.'

When he arrived at his building, he quickly climbed the stairs and arrived at his room, taking his backpack off his shoulders as he stared at the window.

'The police don't come here as often anymore. Even with a few days in a row, I've somehow worked out a pattern of a few days that they should be chasing.'

Oliver took his hand to the fake pocket of the backpack and removed the cover, passing it over his body while he was still watching the street, thinking.

'I have to take advantage of this chance, I need to get rid of the police first.'

He quickly put on his cloak, grabbed his bow and quiver, heading quickly to the terrace of his building and starting to run, keeping watch.

It had been a while since he had faced bandits, but his movement remained the same, his senses sharpened and when he clenched his fist he still felt strong.

He looked down at his hand and saw black archery gloves that were on his hands as his newest upgrade, making him give a slight smile as he thought.

'It seems like wearing this won't bother me, at least this way I can get rid of the marks.'

His vision seemed sharper and even with his fast running, he could clearly see the tops of buildings.

Something caught his attention in the middle of the terraces, where he saw someone standing, seeming to look at the city from the top of a building.

Even though he was suspicious and wanted to confirm, Oliver just lowered his stance and quickened his pace, quickly moving away from there while he thought.

'I can't let them see me so close to home, even if it's a few kilometers, it might put them on my tail again.'

It was his thought as he ran in search of something that caught his attention on the streets and thanks to his speed, it didn't take long for him to find more bandits.

Stopping at the top of a building, he saw a liquor store with strange activity.

Four men wearing balaclavas and others wearing hoods came out of them with several bottles in bags, all running towards a car and making Oliver think.

'How ironic, them hiding their faces makes it easier to identify them.'

He gave a slight smile and jumped towards the bandits' car.

When they finally arrived, they saw the driver of the vehicle rushing them as he accelerated the car so they could leave.

However, before they got in, they saw a boy sink the roof of the car when he fell under it while crouching.

The driver was scared and the bandits saw the green cloak above the car along with a hooded figure with a bow in hand.

Without wasting time, the thieves placed the drinks on the floor and put their hands in their pockets.

Oliver seeing this, jumped and charged at a bandit, delivering a high kick to his face, causing him to be thrown back and hit one of his companions.

All the bandits were taken by surprise, but they didn't back down and drew pistols from their waists, pointing quickly towards Oliver, who was widening his eyes in thought.

'Shit.'

In an instant the shots were fired and Oliver jumped towards the bandits who were once again taken by surprise when he saw the boy running over everyone.

As he rotated in the air, Oliver saw the bandits trying to follow his movements with pistol shots, but none of them hit, opening the way for the archer to draw his weapon and pull out an arrow.

The bandits continued to try to land shots, but without success, until the arrow was fired and pierced the thigh of one who grunted in pain.

The last one standing widened his eyes as he saw his companion fall to the ground with an arrow through his thigh.

After a few moments in the air, Oliver landed, already seeing the bandit who had been hit by one of his companions starting to get up.

Even though he had the clear advantage there, Oliver saw the already armed bandit once again pointing the pistol in his direction.

Oliver started to run again, dodging the bullets while preparing an arrow and shooting towards the one armed with the pistol.

The arrow went at speed and went straight to the bandit's thigh, who was writhing in pain when hit, but Oliver continued to advance, this time holding the lower part of the bow tightly.

The criminal couldn't even react and was hit between his eyes by a bow strike, hitting the car door and falling to the ground, already passed out.

Oliver looked with a slight smile on his face and the bandits' driver, seeing that there was no way to confront the vigilante, soon stepped on the accelerator and tried to get away as quickly as possible.

After a certain distance he seemed scared, but with a certain relief, until he heard the sound of his tire bursting and lost control of the car, widening his eyes in surprise and looking at the rear view mirrors.

When he had a view of his tires, he saw an arrow that had punctured the rear tire, causing him to lose control and hit a car that was parked on the street, with his escape prevented.

Oliver was still in a firing stance from afar, but seeing that his plan had been successful, he sighed with relief.

Little by little relief came, but an angry growl was heard behind him and he caught a glimpse of a bandit with a knife, advancing towards him.

However, Oliver faced it more coldly and dodged the knife with ease, striking the bandit's face with a punch as a counterattack and saw the bandit's face fall back, already falling unconscious to the ground.

With all the bandits prevented from escaping or passed out, Oliver shook his hand where there was the same black winter glove as before, making him think.

'It doesn't bother me, besides, at least this way the marks will disappear little by little, I can't keep cutting myself with kitchen knives forever.'

He would raise his head when he heard sounds of sirens approaching and he would draw his bow across his body, starting to run towards the building while thinking.

'These guys apparently already knew about the green vigilante, I think the surprise factor will be less from now on.'

Again he stepped hard on the ground and jumped onto a building and reached his terrace.

However, before he landed, something caught his attention and made him squint his eyes.

As soon as he landed, Oliver looked up and saw someone on the same terrace as him, but close to the edge.

The person who was standing hid his face behind the shadow of his hood and appeared to have his head slightly lowered.

Oliver stared at the hooded man and thought.

'He is different from swordsmen.'

When he looked in more detail, he noticed that the hooded man left his hands in his pockets and seemed static as he looked at Oliver, making him question himself.

'He saw all my fight… no… he followed me…'

His memory returned to a short time ago, when he remembered seeing a person on the terrace nearby.

Before he had thought it was just someone suspicious, but little by little it made more and more sense in his mind and made him frown as he stared at the hooded man.

The cold night wind blew beneath the two and they slightly moved their hoods to the side.

For a brief moment Oliver blinked, however, as soon as he opened his eyes he saw the hooded man on the edge as he gave his body back, heading towards the fall, making Oliver's eyes widen when he saw the hooded man falling.

However, Oliver soon reacted and started running in the direction in which the hooded man was, thinking.

'If it is a relic bearer, he will resist.'

He tried to run at his maximum speed and reached the end, but as soon as he looked down towards where the hooded man had fallen, there was nothing, just an empty corridor that made him frown as he thought.

'It disappeared.'

In the empty corridor there were only garbage dumpsters that made him wonder if the hooded man had hidden, leaving him to just click his teeth as he thought.

'We are very far away and unlike the gunman, I didn't feel him watching me. Maybe it's someone else.'

His thoughts flowed as he saw lights appear on the walls.

He was on the 6th floor of a building, a fall that would kill anyone and not seeing any body there made him confirm his thoughts.

Oliver heard the sound of police sirens getting closer and closer, realizing that they had been attracted by the sounds of gunfire.

If he stayed there for too long, he would generate suspicion and they would see his face, making Oliver pull his hood down as he turned towards his house, running again between the buildings and away from the crime scene.
