Reverberations from the past.

"What do you see when you look at me?" Vanessa asked, as she stared tearily at Raymond. "Broken? Hurt? Mad? Dangerous?" "Vanessa. That's all I see. I see you, Vanessa" Raymond replied shortly, as he bent on his knees to caress her cheeks. "A vulnerable Vanessa?" she asked "No. I see Vanessa, a woman struggling to make things right" he replied honestly. "I'm sorry I dragged you into this. I'm so sorry" she said almost in a whisper, but he heard her due to their close proximity. "You didn't do anything wrong. I should be apologizing instead. Vanessa, I..." "Stop, Raymond! Just don't. I can't even look you in the eyes" she said as she looked down. "You lost almost everything because of me. I'd understand if you blame me. But please don't apologize to me" she said as she wept uncontrollably. Raymond pulled her into his arms, kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly. "I'd never blame you, Vanessa. Never" "Raymond, can we start all over again when all these end?" "No..." ***** Aida grew up in a lovely home, with mother out of the picture. Chapter 2 Preparation

"Vanessa, just mentioning that town brought a lot of memories. The good ones, bad ones and...." Ciara, Vanessa's younger sister, said as she watched her elder sister dress up.

"Ugly ones!" Cindy the youngest among the sisters cut her sister.

"Yeah" Vanessa replied with a slightly husky voice since her voice was more densed than her two younger sisters.

"Traveling there won't be easy for any of us, especially you, Van...." Cindy said thoughtfully. "You can choose not to go, Van. You can make up an excuse. You can say you had an emergency, which needed solely your attention. You're a physician. They'll understand"

Vanessa kept dressing ignoring her younger sister's advice.

"Cindy, don't say that. We both know it's already hard for Van. She choosing to honor the school's invitation may not hurt her. It's time for Van to heal. In fact it's time for all of us to heal. I think I'd be best if we went there with her. Don't you think we need to visit mama and papa? It's been a while. I miss them" Ciara said sadly.

"Yeah, me too. I miss them" Cindy agreed.

After a brief moment of silence, Vanessa said; "Alright, ladies! We're going to westland. We're going home to visit mama and papa. Get ready. Our flight will be in two hours"

"And who gave you that authority?" Cindy asked with a raised eyebrow.

Vanessa knew her sisters weren't pushovers.

"I just thought we'd all like to go. I thought you'd like to visit mama and papa" Vanessa replied adamantly.

"I think I'd like to go. I'm going to get ready" Ciara said and excused herself.

"I don't want to be left here either. I'm gonna get ready as well" Cindy replied and left as well.

Vanessa sighed when her sisters left her room. She finally settled on a simple knee-length peach bodycon dress with neck extension which covered her entire neck and had a simple oval shape opening slightly above her breast, which exposed minimal cleavage and revealed her hourglass shape. She chose a light brown coat and matching bags and pair of heels. Her simple golden necklace and earrings made her look more simple yet elegant. She had packed her luggage overnight and all she needed to do was to wait for her sisters. Her make up was always nude, yet it drew attention to all the attractive features on her face. She applied her favorite perfume and stretched on her bed. She knew her sisters weren't fools to believe visiting their parents was her ulterior motive. She knew they accepted to go with her to find out how the girl was doing. Even though the girl's very existence reminded her of her past plight, she still wanted to see her. Vanessa still couldn't place her hands on why her motherly instincts kicked in whenever she thought of her. Well, it won't be long before she sees her. Anyway, she has to keep her distance from that girl. Getting too attached, would only remind her of her past agonies. In less than thirty minutes, her sisters were ready. Vanessa smiled knowingly. It only meant they had planned on going with her and had even planned for everything in advance. Her tail was only pushed a little to make it look like she invited them.

"Vanessa! You're not done yet?" Ciara let out, when she saw her sister lying on the bed.

"I'm done. Can't you see it for yourself?" Vanessa replied.

"Van, do you call that hair done?" Cindy asked trying to surpress her urge to laugh.

They were all African women with hair which refused to obey the law of gravity, however, they're hair was soft which made it easy to style and comb.

"Urgh! I was waiting for you, Cindy..." Van replied putting on a sad puppy face.

"Here, let me help you" Cindy offered to style her hair.

"I want a simple hair style" Vanessa said.

" There's never a day, you've wanted an extravagant hairstyle" Cindy and Ciara replied in a chorus and all three burst into laughter.

Cindy made a few braids in front of her hair and tied all in a bun.

"You look as beautiful as always" Ciara coaxed.

"Yeah, I agree" Cindy seconded.

"I think we have more than 2 hours. Our flight is in 2 hours 30 minutes." Van reminded them.

"We're flying business class or first class?" Cindy asked.

"Business class" Van replied.

"Alright!" Cindy replied.

"I think we must move to the airport first, then spend the next hours discussing our new business deal" Ciara proposed.

"Yeah, I agree" Cindy said nodding while they looked at Vanessa.

"Let's go then, ladies" Vanessa said and they left that instant.
