Who?

Fig quickly put himself between the dark fae and myself ready for a fight. The dark fae saw it and smirked but ignored it as he walked back to the fire. "You and your pet can stay by my fire for the night if you wish." He said as he sat down. He looked up at me and waited. The shadows created by the fire flicked across his face as his warm golden eyes watched me in question."Why would the dark fae prince be out by himself?" Fig asked with caution. The dark fae prince!?

My head whipped between Fig and the dark fae. "A high level familiar... interesting. I have my reasons and none of those reasons require me to answer you." He said making it very clear to Fig and I that it was none of our business and continued to say "You are free to stay or leave." And leaned to the side to stretch. He looked like he really could care less. Fig and I shared a look and decided to stay. Fig stayed close to me as he continued to watch the dark fae.

I watched the dark fae myself but my reasons were slightly different. He was tall... maybe six two? Six four? He was lean but built. The shadows continued to play across his face and body highlighting his defined muscles. He was hands down the most attractive male I had ever laid eyes on. The light fae was attractive as well but him wanting to kill me took his attractive level waaay down. I quickly shook my thoughts away and wanted to kick myself.

So far everything here wants to kill me. This fae will probably be the same. I look back up to see the fae watching me. "So why is a lone woman and her familiar walking around alone... and with no shoes." He said taking a quick glance at my feet. "We have our reasons and none of those reasons required us to answer you," Fig says with a frown. I guess the comment made by the dark fae had bothered him. I try to keep the smile off my face.

"I wasn't asking you furball." The dark fae said with a smirk. He makes eye contact with me and waits. Should I tell him? Or should I lie..."Something was given to me and someone else wanted it so now he's angry and wants to kill me..." I say in a low voice. "I lost my shoes along the way." And my dignity I thought to myself. I play with a stick in my hands.

I can see the fae's mind working as he thinks about what I say then nods. "What's your name?" He asked in a low voice while looking at me. "Syn.. and this is Fig. What's your name?" I asked softly. He looks at Fig then back to me "Rune." He says. I give him a small smile as I say "Nice to meet you Rune. Thank you for sharing your fire with us." Something shifts in his eyes but he quickly hides it and nods. "If you'd like you and your pet can stay with me as far as the next town. If whoever is after you shows up I will keep you safe." Rune says while poking the fire with a stick.

I feel like it should be a really nice offer but I felt like something was slightly off. Like his intentions weren't completely pure. I tried to keep the look of suspicion off my face as I look at Fig. He looks at me and shrugs. I look back at the fae and see that he's watching me. Looking at his golden eyes and the intensity behind them I suddenly felt uneasy. He was a predator and I didn't like feeling like prey. I don't know if he noticed the small shift in my attitude but he shot me a small reassuring smile. Or at least it was supposed to be...

I gave him a small smile and said "That's really kind of you. If you really don't mind Fig and I will travel with you until the next town." His smile grew as he said "Good." I suddenly wondered if I had made the right decision. I could tell he was dangerous. I could feel it and I knew he could keep us safe from the ones chasing us but the real question was could we keep ourselves safe against him? I wasn't sure.

That night I couldn't fall asleep. I kept tossing and turning and even though I was exhausted I couldn't quite my mind. I kept thinking about everything that's happened and my friends. My family. I missed them and I missed my bed. What I wouldn't do for a burger and a soda. My mind kept drifting back to the dark fae Rune. I really don't know if we can trust him but at the same time, I feel we don't have much of a choice.

I turn over on my side and catch a pair of golden eyes looking at me. I get comfortable and stare back at him. Unwilling to look away. He watches me for a minute then smiles as he closes his eyes ignoring me. I try to do the same and after some time I finally feel sleep pulling at me. Was it bad that I was thinking about food more than my family and friends? Sigh... I was hungry. That night I dreamed of eating nonstop while rolling around in my bed.

Hey guys I hope everyone is enjoying the ride! Thank you for the support <3
