The heavy rain showed no sign of stopping.
Mr. Jiang, Jiang Wan, and the others kept silent. They understood that nothing they said could change Horn's mind. After all, the Infinite Purple Eyes originally belonged to Horn, and they could sympathize with his feelings.
"I'm going to take a walk inside the Su family estate," Horn said, stepping into the manor.
Mr. Jiang turned to Jiang Wan. "Go with him."
Jiang Wan followed Horn without hesitation, while the others stayed back, giving them space.
Horn walked through the estate, his mind drawn to the memories of his parents. He eventually found himself in the courtyard where they had once lived. Before he turned five, even though his parents weren't around much, he had a relatively peaceful life in the Su family, thanks to his possession of immortal bones. Whenever he missed his parents, this was the place he would come.
Now, the courtyard was overgrown with fallen leaves and covered in cobwebs, neglected for years. Jiang Wan quietly stayed by his side, sensing the emotional weight this place held for him.
Horn approached a door, pushed it open, and was greeted by a cloud of dust. As he entered the room, a strange sensation surged through him, as if his blood was responding to something powerful. His instincts led him to a wall. Placing his palm against it, he pressed slightly, causing it to crumble, revealing a hidden compartment with an ancient wooden box inside.
The box was covered in intricate carvings, and Horn quickly understood that it was protected by a formation linked to his mother's bloodline. Only someone related to her and possessing cultivation would be able to sense and open it. Horn's immortal bones had been removed when he was five, and he hadn't been able to cultivate back then, which explained why this box had remained hidden for so long.
With a quiet breath, Horn opened the box. Inside, there was a letter and a jade pendant in the shape of a tiger. He hesitated for a moment, then unfolded the letter.
"Son, I'm so sorry. Your father and I may not be able to watch you grow up, but know that we love you more than anyone else in the world. If you are reading this, it means you've achieved a certain level of cultivation. If you're no longer safe in the Su family, go to the Duan family in the Northwest. Show them the jade pendant, and they will accept you. Please don't try to find us. Your father and I will continue to cultivate and, one day, we will return to you. Remember, we love you forever. —Your mother."
Horn stood in silence for a long time after reading the letter. His parents were alive, somewhere to the west. Perhaps the Duan family could help him find them. After settling his affairs in the capital, he would head there.
He placed the letter and pendant into his storage ring. Despite missing his parents for so long, every word in the letter reaffirmed their love for him, and the weight of his longing grew heavier.
Jiang Wan had read the letter too, but she wasn't sure how to comfort him. The rain continued to fall softly against the windows.
Horn took a deep breath, trying to steady his emotions. His parents never knew that, when he was five, the Su family had ripped the immortal bones from his body, leaving him powerless for so many years.
Jiang Wan, dressed in a long black gown, hesitated before stepping closer. She gently embraced him. "Brother Horn, if you're sad, I can lend you my shoulder."
Without waiting for a reply, she gently guided his head toward her chest. It was warm, soft, and comforting.
Horn's face was buried in her chest. "Is this a shoulder?" he thought with amusement, but the warmth was undeniable.
Jiang Wan's face flushed as she stood there, holding him.
Horn eventually pulled back, his face close to hers. "Woman, you're playing with fire. Be careful or you might get burned."
Jiang Wan's heart raced, and she quickly stepped back. "I was only trying to comfort you."
Horn smiled, stretching casually. "It's nothing. I'll be fine. But... you should be careful next time."
Jiang Wan blushed even more, unsure how to respond. Finally, she said, "Brother Horn, can you help guide me in my cultivation from now on?"
Horn's gaze softened. "I'll be busy in the coming days, but tonight, I can show you a special method that might help."
Jiang Wan bit her lip, slightly embarrassed. "You're so bad, Brother Horn."
Horn raised an eyebrow, confused. "I meant I'll help you cultivate using spiritual energy, nothing more."
Realizing her misunderstanding, Jiang Wan quickly left the room, flustered.
Outside, Jiang Feng saw his sister and smirked. "Sister, why is your face so red? Were you and brother-in-law—"
Before he could finish, Jiang Wan kicked him squarely, sending him to the ground.
"Shut up if you don't know how to talk," she snapped, leaving him to dust himself off.
