Unlike other trainers or future police officers of the Jenny family, Kimi had lots of experience from her previous life so she had to consider her team and future events carefully. 'I need something that can cover for the weaknesses of Growlithe but Squirtle has been taken. Bulbasaur is an option too but it will grow much too large and I will probably put it aside for something else. An egg is random but it could have come from another region and it may be useful once hatched.. Eevee is a normal type right now so while it can provide some additional support to Growlithe in combat and help out on other duties, it will not show its true potential until much later once it is evolved. The egg is a risky choice but Could be rewarding while Eevee has potential for later.'
Her eyes rested on the egg and she faintly sensed the fluctuations inside with her aura.
Often there were eggs that were very compatible with a trainer so they hatched upon being in their care but they did not hatch over a long period of time even when carefully cared for so Kimi was looking to see if there was any connection formed but she was quickly disappointed. 'If we are not fated to be together then I will not force it.'
Kimi pointed towards the Pokéball with the Eevee inside. "I choose the Eevee."
The judge was startled and then asked. "Are you certain? There is little known about this one yet, the methods of raising them have not become public knowledge."
Kimi nodded. "I am certain."
She already knew all of the conditions to evolve an Eevee so she could freely choose and set those conditions to get what she desired. 'Now I just need to figure out its place in the team whether it will be a part of my public set or a part of my secret one.'
Among the Eevee evolutions were the more obvious fire, grass and water options but then there was many more to be considered from the ones not yet discovered. 'No Glaceon as I have not considered an Ice type yet, Jolteon could take up a place as an electric type in the team but there is also Umbreon, Espeon and Sylveon which could cover a Dark, Psychic or Fairy role. Espeon could provide excellent control and support with the use of its psychic abilities but Sylveon will be useful for countering dragon types.'
Although Umbreon may be a good addition to the dark and more offensive team she wished to build, she would have Eevee registered to her league account so it was not an option to use. 'The main problem is where I will be heading after this. That can help me with deciding how I will collect various Pokémon to fill the missing positions temporarily or permanently.'
The judge then looked at her lost in her thoughts as he dropped the Pokéball into her hands. "Good luck kid. I do not know if you have anywhere your family has assigned you to or if there is a job lined up but your efforts should not have gone unnoticed.'
Kimi nodded quietly as she placed the Pokéball into her bag. "Thank you."
She then thought to herself. 'Even if I could attract their attention, once they take a look at my background.. they will probably hesitate to approach me. I have not shown enough potential here for them to want to approach me since it will not bring them any benefits.'
She bowed a little then left the building with her new id card, provisional officer card and the two new companions that she had gained.
When she got home, she faced her father with a calm look in her eyes. "Dad, I have decided that I do not wish to become an official officer. I have realised that it will be too difficult for me to achieve anything if I try to do anything within the Jenny family or the league. I am sorry to displease you."
Her father was calmer than he had expected. "Sorry I must have put a lot of pressure on you for you to come to this decision. It was always my wish that you could achieve what I could not."
Kimi shook her head. "I always looked up to you and mom but now mom is no longer with us, there are still no leads to what caused her death and you have to suffer daily from your own wounds. Although I still believe that helping people is something I should do, I do not think that my place to do that is as an officer."
Her father nodded and went silent for a while before asking. "So what do you want to do? Do you want to become a trainer or a ranger? Maybe something else?"
Kimi shook her head and then answered. "For now I will just work as a bounty hunter and take tasks that I qualify for with my provisional officer card. I qualified so I should be able to make use of it well and I can take on a wider variety of tasks with little worry about being suspected by the clients."
Her father smiled. "It seems like you have it all figured out already but why do mercenary or bounty hunting work?"
Kimi shrugged. "It gives me the freedom to travel and pick my own tasks then I can work on raising my own Pokémon while doing so."
Her father replied. "Okay but do you plan to start from here or will you be going somewhere in particular to start off? What did you choose to be your partner?"
Kimi put her hand on her chin and then answered. "I plan on moving somewhere else so I will need some travel expenses and other essentials. If possible I would like you to buy me a Pokéblock set because I wish to learn how to make food for my new companions. I will be going to somewhere that I can train and gain better experience."
She then took out two Pokéballs and threw them out. "Come out Growlithe and Eevee. Greet my dad."
Her father looked at them and gasped. "You got two? Did you perform really well in the tests? I am so proud of you! I was going to prepare something for you but I did not know what to buy. Now that you have asked, I will get you what you have asked for. Growlithe is an excellent companion so treat it well and you will have a companion for life but I do not know much about Eevee. Is that the one you earned yourself?"
Kimi let out a small laugh. "Me and Growlithe performed well together so I believe that we can form a great bond. Eevee is new as I got it from coming in second place in the tests but I chose it myself since I felt that it will be useful in the future."
Her father looked up and down towards Eevee and then spoke. "Intelligent eyes but cute. It is definitely better suited to girls because of its appearance."
Kimi rolled her eyes as she looked towards Eevee. "Hello, I am your new master. This is the first time we have met but we will have many opportunities for us to work together."
She then turned to her father and said. "I will be going to the back yard to practice with them both. Can I borrow your old weighted attachments?"
Her father nodded. "Go ahead, you should know where they are so go get them. I will go out and get what you need so do not forget to pay your old man back."
Kimi rolled her eyes and replied. "Of course, of course."
She quickly found some weighted leg straps and other attachments of different sizes that would he secured to a Pokémon's body then she adjusted the size and weight of the ones she took before heading to the back yard.
She secured a set to her own body and then did the same for Eevee and Growlithe.
Growlithe looked very uncomfortable and Eevee looked confused as the weight on their bodies increased.
Kimi then explained. "While you do grow from your experiences, battles and other factors… the best way to improve your body is to train it effectively and practice your moves. For now you will join me in carrying out different exercises with the light weights on and I will adjust it once you have gotten used to it."
She then tossed over another tool and added. "This thing will help you with increasing your biting power without harming your jaws or teeth."
While Kimi had begun to perform various different exercises from running, jogging, hopping or skipping, pushups, sit ups and star jumps while wearing her weights, she occasionally shouted out. "Growlithe, just like the first obstacle test. Hop forward five times, run and then do a long jump. Eevee copy him! Eevee use tackle on the dummy standing there! Growlithe use bite on it too!"
Several days passed by as they trained together and Kimi spent a lot of effort to slowly bond with them both through the shared hardships and the personally prepared food she made them.
Her own plans to form a very close bond with both of them at the same time was gradually progressing.
Her bond with Growlithe was important since they needed to be able to work together in the future but there was also the fact that she needed her friendship to be very high with her Eevee to allow it to evolve in the future so she had to take some time to properly feed and groom them both so one was not left out and would become jealous of the other.
During the free time that she had, she had started to register herself online with the guilds that handle the job requests and was quickly accepted due to her provisional officer card which showed that she had the connections or qualifications to carry out certain tasks with or without assistance.
She and her father were currently living in Viridian City so it would take some travelling to get to where she needed to be and there were things that she needed to do so she did not waste any time as she headed out to use what she had and to test the cooperation of her two new partners.
