… Reyan …
As I closed the doors of the room, Kenny was standing in front of me.
"Are we going to Sarah? " ----- Kenny was anxious to prove that Annie was right -----
"No"
"But we just cannot assume that Annie is wrong."
"She wasn't lying. I read about it when she asked me to buy them."
"ohh .. So you weren't suspecting her all this time?"
"No. I'm happy we chose the right person for our task. She is reliable."
The next day after the check up, we went home. Kenny had an important task to do, so he left mid way. Annie hasn't spoken throughout the journey. On reaching home, she rushed to her room. I was getting ready to leave for work.
She came down when I was at the doorstep.
"Are you leaving for work?"
"Yes. Want any herb to totter me?"
"I wish. " --- smiling sarcastically she said ---- "Will you be meeting your goddess?"
"My goddess !?"
"Sarah."
"Let's talk in the evening when Kenny comes back."
Disheartened ---- "Okay."
At the firm, in the meeting room …
"Reyan, we hope you will finish this mission on time."
"Yes sir."
"You can take no more than 2 months finding their flaws. Get to them before they start planning. "
"Roger that."
After the meeting everyone left the room.
"How's it going with Annie?"
"we'll start training her starting next week."
"Can she handle all of this?"
"She tried to escape twice already."
"Great! Do not ignore her, she is our potential bait for our mission in C city."
Bait! This word had a strong stinging effect in my heart. She was our bait. For some reason I wanted to retreat from this and protect her. That is why we chose her, however, the thought of time flying by and her end approaching was disturbing. I cannot let her simply die. She must fight for herself before becoming a pawn in our game.
Soon I came back to my senses and started working. Running around different places, clicking pictures of dealers, decoding their coversations, et cetera are my daily tasks. Once the time arrives, we get into action, and that includes life loss. All this time I was not losing my life amidst all of this.
My family doesn't know about the work I do. They live in LA after all. If they knew they wouldn't let me leave.
After finishing up I went home. Annie was sitting on the couch, relaxed, legs crossed. She knew I'll have to accept her proposal for freedom. I wish she doesn't ask to leave this home.
