It wasn't supposed to be like this. Everything went wrong the moment I was reincarnated in One Piece. It was supposed to be fun, me going on adventures with my friends, exploring the Grand Line and finding treasures. The world is cruel, and I faced the true nature of One Piece after my first life, dying to pirates who raided my home. In my second life, I vowed vengeance and became cannon fodder in the Marine. My third life was no better, thrown into Impel Down after being caught by Marines, dying at Shiryu's hands. Why did I get the ability to reincarnate? It's so painful... I vow that in my fourth life, I will do anything to change my fate, and stand atop the world. If not my fourth, it will be my fifth. I will reincarnate for as long as it takes.
I was born in a nice family. I had loving parents, a caring older brother, and a lovely dog.
It all went wrong when the Apocalypse started.
One day, a meteor fell from the sky, spreading viruses that infected any living creature, turning and mutating them into carnivorous monsters.
Scientists across the world tried to find a cure to the virus known as Sp-Virus, but to no avail, all attempts were unsuccessful, with some of them mutating the monsters even further.
The monsters were essentially immortal, with only one weak point - their brains.
It was found that if you destroyed their brain, whether by putting a hole in it with a gun, or smashing it into smithereens with hammers, they would die without exception as long as their brain was damaged.
It was also discovered that the monsters could infect others through bites and scratches, turning the infected into the same monsters like themselves.
It's scary, isn't it?
The people that you were laughing and drinking with in the morning, could turn into monsters lusting after flesh, and all it takes is a single wound from them.
The world is cruel like that.
(Kairo's POV)
"RUN, KAIRO!"
I listened to my brother and ran as fast as I could, tears streaking down my face, hearing the screams of my family and countless others.
'Why did it all go wrong?'
We had a nice life. Father was a hard worker. His job didn't pay well, but he still managed to provide for the family, while Mother worked from home, doing household chores and helping me and my brother with our homework.
We were a happy family. Father was a humorous man, often making jokes at the dinner table, while Mother was a gentle woman, scolding us when we did something wrong, but she would always comfort us when we faced hardships.
'So, why did it all go wrong?'
It was that damned meteor. Why couldn't it avoid Earth like the others? Why did it have to crash on Earth, and of all places on Earth, why the hell did it land in my hometown?
As I was running and cursing the meteor, I tripped and fell on the concrete ground, scraping my knee and elbow.
"Ouch.."
I wasn't used to feeling pain in my 9 years of life because after all, how often could you possibly fall?
As I focused on the pain, I didn't notice one of 'them' approaching me.
"Blerghhhh..."
I froze as soon as I heard that sound, the sound that signaled the start of this hell.
I quickly turned around, seeing the disgusting face of the monster that crept up behind me, and that was when I realized, I made a bad move.
The monster lunged at me, and even if it was a mindless monster, it had the strength of an adult, while I was only a 9 year old boy.
As I attempted to wrestle it off me, I saw its jaws open, and my vision blacked out as I fell into the cold embrace of death.
