Chapter 156

With that open mouth, Souryuu release a blood-like fire breath of a dragon but in a straight line instead of spreading it like a normal dragon would.

Katsuto who is in front of the group uses his family's magic Phalanx to prevent the group from getting hit by this blood.

When blood hits the Phalanx, it starts sizzling as the Phalanx melts easily with the assault of the blood from the Souryuu. This made Katsuto frown but it's not a problem to him as he can easily replace the currently melting phalanx with ease without sacrificing the defense. However, he did not do it yet as he wanted to test how long the current Phalanx could last or how strong the blood that seemed corrosive from his casual observation.

Mikihiko who was watching gave a strained laugh "I forgot to tell you guys that this thing can spew corrosive blood that could melt even the hardest steel you could imagine though all according to myth." He explained,

"Maybe you should said that as soon as possible so we could have prepared for the impact but luckily we have Junmoji-senpai for defense," Hattori said with a sigh.

"I would have told you guys if it wasn't for him," Mikihiko said as he pointed to Leo and let him take the blame.

"That was just a coincidence," Leo said but was not angry at this.

"But it happened twice" Mikihiko retorted. But Leo just shrugs. Mizuki frowned and stared at Mikihiko weirdly making the latter apologize to Leo.

The onslaught of corrosive blood stopped, which gave them a breather especially Katsuto who blocked the attack, the excess corrosive blood that Katsuto was unable to block scattered in different directions resulting in the blood burning holes in the audience seating. He then instructed the group to find the users controlling this abomination while he held the monster.

"Mikihiko is wrong about that one Junmoji-senpai," said Mizuki who had her glasses off as she looked and scrutinized Souryuu's appearance.

"No one is controlling it?" asked the temporary leader,

Mizuki nodded "It's completely on its own." She said while putting her glasses back on.

 Katsuto looked at Tatsuya for a second opinion and the latter agreed to Mizuki's findings after seeing it with his own eyes using elemental sight.

"Then get ready to fight this thing ourselves" Katsuto shouted. All of them got ready except for Erika.

"I don't think I can help you with this one because this thing is really for my swordsmanship to cut it and I don't even have my Odachi here," Erika said as she thought that she had her sword too she could at least help. Leo agreed with her as he is more of a punch-and-beat-up kind of guy and also because both of them are melee fighters.

While they were talking, Souryuu attacked again with its corrosive blood breath. Katsuto was quick to use his Phalanx to try and block the attack.

"Let me help," Tsubaki who had been watching this unfold said. She then raised her arm as she summoned Mirror Alice to reflect the breath attack.

When the corrosive blood reflected on Souryuu, it shrieked and wailed in pain. The group covered their ears at that sudden outburst but they thought that they should get used to it because they were about to fight this thing.

Smoke that came from the corrosive attack covered the monster preventing the group from seeing the damage done to itself.

As the smoke cleared up, they noticed two things. First, is that from the looks of it, it didn't get damaged even though those attacks were so powerful that they made the monster shout in pain. The second thing they noticed might be the key to defeating the enormous opponent.

"It shrinks?" Honoka said.

"The attack was so damaging that it shrank its size a bit" Shizuku added.

"Anyone who had the means to attack from long range! Attack with all you got from different directions" Katsuto shouted to the others "Miss here and I will protect you guys so don't worry about getting melted by that thing" He added as he pointed to Tsubaki who the latter nodded once.

"You didn't add the melting part" Erika quipped.

They laughed a bit before they then spread out as instructed and sprang up in action.

Sona's peerage with basic level magic except for the Silver or white-haired Hanakai Momo and the brown-haired Kusaka Reya as they have the Bishop piece inside them. In fact, this two-bishop attack power was enough to make Souryuu shrink but not comparable to the self-inflicted attack that was done to itself. 

Tatsuya observes Sona's peerage way of attack and he concludes that their attack is not so special compared to the others in Oreki's group but special enough compared to his group.

Masaki used his magic Rupture to damage the Souryuu and for the record, Oreki returned his memory of Rupture magic after the event that's why he can use it again during this time of crisis but he did not have a recollection of being unable of used Rupture.

One of the attacks came towards Honoka, Miyuki, and Shizuku but Miyuki was able to deal with it by using Niflheim magic before it reached about 2 meters to their location, and the blood froze from that point all the way toward one of the head of Souryuu that launch that corrosive blood.

"Nice Miyuki" Honoko praised, though she got scared for a second there and almost peed on her skirt.

"Looking Cool" Shizuku praised while giving a thumbs up.

Miyuki nodded towards them before looking to her Onii-sama which the latter smiled and made her happy just seeing his approval or praise. Honoka wished she was the target of that smile.

While Miyuki and her current group are having idle thoughts, Two of Sona's peerage members use frozen blood as a platform to run toward the Souryuu. These members are the reddish-brown-haired Knight Tomoe and the blue-haired Rook Tsubasa. Though they can fly toward Souryuu using their devil wings but choose not to because it's cooler this way.

Tomoe was the first to arrive at one of the faces of the Souryuu. She uses her katana to attack and chip the face causing them to roar in anger while having an X mark in the face. Next to arrive in the same face is obviously Tsubasa who's in her punching motion already and with a shout, she punches the same Souryuu face.

That particular face of Souryuu was destroyed by the combined attack of Tomoe and Tsubasa but a new face emerged from it replacing the missing one.

As both Tsubasa and Tomoe freefall, both of them still smiled as they achieved what they wanted and that was to make it shrink as much as they could,

Seeing them freefall, Katsuto uses his phalanx to make a platform for them to reach the ground safely. Duo appreciated the gesture and used the Phalanx platform.

Souryuu used its tail to destroy the frozen blood to prevent anyone from replicating what the Duo did,

"That could have been me if I were near Miyuki," Erika said as she watched what the Duo of Devils did.

"You mean that could be us" Leo added.

With quick thinking, Erika said, "Let's ask Junmoji-senpai to create a platform for us." She was about to run towards Katsuto when Mikihiko stopped her by saying that they should let Katsuto focus on protecting the others or their group from getting hit by the corrosive blood.

Erika clicked her tongue after hearing that. She is not angry that Mikihiko gave her a good reason to stop what she wanted to do. She is angry because right now, she is really useless and unable to help. The same can be said of Leo.

Mizuki noticing this placates Erika that she will have the time to unleash her wrath after Souryuu shrinks enough. Mikihiko agreed to her and smiled at her for quick reasoning to placate Erika.

Erika and Leo sigh before doing their current job which is to guard Mikihiko while the latter attack different kinds of spirit magic towards Souryuu. Why are they guarding him? Just in case someone sneak attack like the ninjas they will be there to guard him.
