Reincarnated as Shikamaru

Being killed wasn't the best thing to go through, especially if it's a slow and painful one, but I guess I did get reincarnated because of it, so I guess it's fine?

Chapter 4: Some more basic training

After around a month of doing the exercises that my father gave me it got rather boring, they were getting far too easy to do I wouldn't get tired even after 3 hours of training, although it did do wonders to my body, I felt even stronger than before and I actually had the capabilities to somewhat protect myself now.

On that note, I had mastered Shurikenjutsu to a point where I could hit targets with my eyes closed, although my max distance was 30 meters as I didn't quite have the strength of a full grown-up, considering that a kunai weighed around 500 grams you had to throw them with quite a lot of force to make sure it hit something, I needed to put in more than half of my strength just to be able to penetrate something from 30 meters, and that is not considering the strength needed to properly lign my shot up, and I was only practicing on stationary targets, they were easy to hit.

I sighed, "This training is such a drag.", My father who just so conveniently happened to enter the training field happened to hear that and gained a big smile on his face, "That's my son, seems like the Nara blood does indeed flow through you."

He looked me up and down and nodded, "Good, it seems like you've been doing exercises daily, I will teach you some more moves today and I will show you different ways to throw weapons, I noticed you had difficulty with strength while your technique is great it can always be better."

Afterward he showed me multiple ways to throw a kunai with more strength, I realized that I had been throwing kunai with only the strength of my arm, I never considered using my wrists, as they could give a boost in power and aiming kunai got a lot easier, shuriken I wasn't that great at throwing, while I could hit a stationary target 10 out of 10 times I didn't have much distance, but again the wrists made it easier.

Now, senbon were a different thing entirely, I was a god at throwing senbon, they were the easiest to use and I could control them much easier, although they were also made for close to mid-range combat, other than that I could throw them a lot harder than kunai or shuriken and I found them a lot more fun to use as well.

I was going fairly well with Taijutsu, but you could tell that it wasn't my strongest point, I mastered the basic movements and attacks but that was it I didn't really experiment with taijutsu as much as I did with Shurikenjutsu, you could tell I wouldn't become a Taijutsu based ninja.

Father showed me more types of kicks, now I could throw high kicks as the stretching did help out a lot with flexibility, and I guess that chakra also had a passive ability, a normal human wouldn't become so flexible in a month, I could easily guess that chakra was at play here, ninjas could adapt to things much quicker than people from my old world could, me as a 5 year old should never have been strong enough to throw a kunai as far as I could, so chakra passively increased the strength of humans, that's also why a 5 year old Kakashi could kill fully grown and trained men.

Going on to punches, well there wasn't a lot I could say about them just more and different kinds of punches, I now also had a combo that I could practice, 2 punches, a low kick, 2 punches, a high kick, 2 punches. This was a combo that I would practice for a while, it trained me in how to change from punches to kicks faster, and I could also improvise a bit by changing up the combo, now instead of just punching a training dummy five hundred times, now I could actually train a bit with attacking from different angles.

I also asked my mother about training me in Bukijutsu but she quickly shot me down as my body wasn't nearly big enough to properly hold a weapon other than a small Tanto, and my mother also said that if I train now I would develop a sense that my reach is shorter than it actually is, as I grew more my body would become bigger and my reach would change, now if I got used to a very short reach it would take me longer to get used to a longer reach, but for example with a Kusarigama reach wouldn't be much of an issue, it would also fit very well with the Nara clan techniques but she also stated that we would only begin training Bukijutsu when I was older, though she didn't tell me why.

Now for footwork pacing was very important, if you start out too fast you would quickly get tired, I learned this after running for the first time, after a minute of running I was more exhausted than ever before, so I quickly set myself a slower pace, it was still hard as my legs were short and weak but I managed to just barely run for 15 minutes.

I was still very weak, I could deal with normal civilians just fine but a normally trained academy student or genin would beat me, simply because I didn't have enough stamina, they had trained for years more than me, but I was slowly getting better, I could now fight better, my movement was smoother and swifter.

"We as the Nara clan need to be swift and silent, our special techniques depend on us not being seen, so you need to be able to be as silent as the night, after all, shadows don't make sounds, so you have to silence all movement, we will first start by meditating every night, then I will show you how to silence your steps and after that how to make sure your clothes don't make a single sound when you move, even the smallest sounds are noticed by ninja, your breathing will have to be so silent that is unhearable, and your presence will have to be undetectable otherwise your enemies will know your location and then your advantage of surprise will be gone, in the future I will also teach you how to mask your chakra."

That was a lot deeper than I thought our early training would be, I never knew that the Nara clan had techniques like this, but this wasn't the anime, this was real, we weren't just 2-d characters whose fate were decided by the author, we were real beings who could think and feel.

This just made me realize that even if I had knowledge of the future that things were not set in stone and that many things could change, this also gave me more determination to become even stronger.

If people don't entirely know Bukijutsu are techniques used for all handheld weapons, Kenjutsu for example is only for swords, Bojutus is for the Bo, there is also Kusarigamajutsu, its basically the art of using a Kusarigama, although I won't specifically refer to it every time when he is training a weapon that isn't specifically a sword it will just be Bukijutsu.
