Chapter 27 – Leveling Up

I put the crystal in my pockets. I looked at Lena who looked really sad as she looked in a direction completely lost in her thought. I didn't know what that woman was thinking, so I ignored it.

-     Starting tomorrow, the knight's training will take place. when we get back let Frederick know that you will join them. You are too weak, all of you. We continue our hunt.

Lena nodded at my words. This time I looked for the trail of a horned dogwood. This was another beginner monster. What's different about this creature is that it was known among newbies as the White Death.

This animal had nothing different from the usual except for its sharp horns that emerged from its heads. These rabbits overwhelmed their victims because of their alarmingly fast speed. You had to have good reflexes if you wanted to defeat them. In my playing days, I died several times facing one of them.

Before using magic, I had to learn the bare minimum in swordsmanship. Before that, I tried other weapons. That was the reason why I was currently using a sword.

The trace led us to a small open area with several flowers. In the midst of the flowers a horn seemed to protrude.

The horn began to move slowly as some flowers disappeared from their place. The rabbit was feeding on these plants.

*Squeak

I pulled my sword from its sheath and walked straight over. Before I could step forward, however, a hand stopped me.

-     My lord. That's a horned rabbit. That thing is very dangerous.

I looked Lena in the face like she was a fool.

-     Watch and learn.

With a jerky movement I pulled my arm out of Lena's grip and walked forward. The rabbit stopped eating the instant it noticed my presence. It eyes immediately changed color to a shade of red and it made several shrieks warning me.

-     Chi....Chirrrrrr... Chiiiiiii!

The rabbit charged at me savagely. Its speed was amazing, yet it wasn't worthy of being my opponent. When the horn was close to me, I stepped aside and lowered my sword, decapitating the rabbit.

Without wasting any more time, I took out the rabbit's nucleus in its brain and the horn that was worth a lot. I ordered Lena to get away for a while. At first, she was reluctant. However, I was the lord here so she had to obey me. I took advantage of that moment and consumed all the blood.

-     Congratulations on permanently increasing your agility by 2 points.

-     Congratulations on getting the sprint skill.

Now it was official. Monster Blood increases my stats with a 100% chance.

I took the rabbit and gave it to Lena to carry. In the next couple of hours, I continued the hunting increasing my stats. In total I got 10 skill points. Also, I managed to successfully level up to level 6. In the end, my stats stayed like this.

Not bad for the first day of hunting. It was weird, though. With the number of creatures I killed, I should have made it up to level 8 at least.

Seeing that the sun was already beginning to set, we returned to the city. Lena also increased her level by 1 point.

Lena looked really tired as she carried 4 decapitated horned rabbits by their legs. It was a kind of funny image.

When we arrived in the city we were immediately let in by guards. The road to the mansion was also quiet, although rumors spread about the cay. Since my change to vampire, I could notice several things about my senses. I could see in the dark and my sense of hearing was much sharper. Allowing me to listen in on their conversations.

-     You see the one walking there. That's the lord. They call him the bloodthirsty. He impaled two men just because they gave him the wrong look.

-     Daughter, that's the lord. You should stay away from him if you see him on the street. They say he likes to burn alive the women who bother him.

All kinds of conversations around me were going on. I didn't bother to resolve those misunderstandings at all and continued my journey.
