Regressor - BlueFish

One moment Billy was in his room jotting down the ideas for his next novel, the next moment he was in another world. He was not the only one. The setting mirrored that of a video game, one where your character would be able to increase his/her stats. Those that were summoned were given one goal, and that goal was to survive. Simple as it might seem. It really isn't, especially when you are being chased by wolves, tracked by goblins, treated as ants by orc, and being hunted by humans. For Billy, his luck was at rock bottom. Minutes after being free to roam the world, he died. He would have stayed dead too, if it wasn't for his talent. What others believe to be a blessing, is actually a curse. Cover of the book is mine. Artist who I commissioned can be found here: https://sketchmob.com/user-profile/EmilyNguyen/

Prologue (1)

Blood slid from the corner of his mouth as his pale, cracked lips opened when he coughed.

"Why are you doing this?"

A voice echoed in his ear, yet he stayed focused on his objective, unwilling to stop.

"Perfection…"

As he said that one word, his outstretched arms started to shake as if he was an older man.

"Stop this madness! You are killing yourself! Even if you finish it, you won't live to see the end."

The voice shouted in fear that his creation would consume him.

His power was slowly fading, and with it, his health.

"My life… I would give it all if I could… but, promise me that when my body fades, you will see it through."

His hands slowed down drastically, and his voice seemed to become distant. In the background, sounds of weeping could be heard.

A white flash of light blinded them both.

"It is done…"

In between his wrinkled hands was a sphere. Although it appeared to be tiny, in reality, it was just the opposite. His hands were too large.

His body started to break apart, starting with his feet. He knew he did not have long, so he turned to look at someone.

"Only the best."

His voice was soft, but there was this pride in his tone.

"Only the best."

A weak voice responded.
