Redemption of the Forsaken

Amos was born into the life of a brigand. He had to kill and steal to stay alive. Eventually he grew older, leveled up, and became wiser. He looked around at the death and destruction he caused. He could no longer bare the blood on his hands or the dead that haunted him in his dreams. So he soaked his hands in the water of absolution and started a new life. In his new life he chose to become the sentinel of a village on the brink of destruction. Can he regain his past strength, protect the village, and wipe away his past sins, or will he fail and be forever damned? ( Chapter size varies but is generally long The story is character driven The first chapters are mostly a prologue while the later ones explain things in more detail Additionally the system will be elaborated more so later on and take a bigger focus) (Last disclaimer(probably): although many parts of the story go into religious ideas and subjects the main character themself remains non religious and I am not trying to make any statements about religion)

Capital Massacre

From what Amos knew, these people were part of a group. They called themselves Luddites. The people themselves used to be weavers, builders, and craftsmen. Then the industrial wave came. It drove all of them out of business. Whether it be the factories or the necromancers, the people just couldn't compete. So now they protest and destroy factories in hopes that the king will change things back to the way it used to be.

But anyone who knew anything could tell you the truth. There wasn't a chance in the abyss that they would succeed. There was a better chance of a vampire becoming vegan than for the movement to succeed. It was a lost cause.

Not to mention most of the Luddites were not combat classes. And in this dangerous and ever-changing world the mantra "might makes right" still reigned.

Amos continued to just stare at the mob. They were now destroying the gate into the Noble's District. There were craftsmen with large hammers pounding away at the bars of the metal gate. It created a constant ringing. The bars began to slowly bend creating small holes.

Due to Amos's senses being far sharper than a normal person he could see all the people and their faces. The Luddites' faces were filled with rage.

There were some guards behind the metal gate. Their faces were filled with fear and uncertainty.

The hammers continued banging away at the bars.

Amos then saw something rise from behind the wall. It was a blimp. The blimp rose high into the sky.

Blimps were rare and expensive so usually only nobles would use them.

With Amos sharp eyes he could even make out nobles looking down at the mob from the windows of the blimp.

When the Luddites saw the blimp they roared even louder. A chant about how nobles always run when responsibility comes began to go around the mob. Some even tried to throw things at the blimp, but nothing ever reached the blimp.

Then all of a sudden in the blink of an eye something dove into the middle of the mob from high in the sky.

BOOM!

There was now a creator within the middle of the mob. Dust and debris first covered the crater. An eerie silence overcame the crowd. Then a strong wind blew out from the middle of the crater pushing away the dust and debris.

Woosh!

It was a bloody crater. The bodies of protesters were littered around it. The crater was about 10 meters wide and 1 meter deep. All of the Luddites crowded around the crater, looking within.

The problem was Amos couldn't see within the crater due to the crowd. Even though he knew he shouldn't get involved, he was dying to find out what caused the crater. So he quickly climbed up a building nearby. Once on top of the roof, he activated [heightened senses]. With it, he could now see within the crater. But what he saw made his heart stop.

Within the crater were 2 men. The first Amos recognized. He was the winged man that killed his brothers!

The winged man was currently fanning his wings to push away the dust. He still held onto his two great swords. His face could only be described as someone who was currently dealing with a minor annoyance.

The second man in the crater just looked like a normal guy. He looked around with an indifferent face.

Amos's mind began to race. Originally he had no plans to seek out revenge. The winged man was obviously much stronger. Plus he almost definitely worked for the royals. And last but not least, it wasn't so much the winged man that killed his brothers but the butler that set them up to begin with. So even if he wanted revenge he would go for the butler and the noble behind him, and not the winged man.

But now that he was looking at the winged man again. His blood boiled. Something deep within him came forth. It was like a switch was finally flipped. Something deep within Amos was pushing him to try and kill the winged man right here, right now. His mind was screaming to "avenge his brothers".

The muscles in Amos leg's twitched. His hands unconsciously grabbed the hilt of his short sword. His foot took one step forward. That's when his mind began to race with memories. The sight of Balgroff dying. Salis sacrificing himself for him. However, instead of fueling the fire of his rage, it only quelled it as he thought more.

'No! I need to think this through.'

Amos yelled in his head. He began to regain control of himself. He pulled his hand away from his sword and began to think.

'The winged man is much stronger than myself. Not to mention that there was another man that landed with him. If I think about it logically the winged man is here to fight the luddites. So the man that landed with him is probably just as strong. The Luddites are far weaker than me. So even if I helped them it still would probably not be enough.'

Even after all that he still wanted to run down there even if it was certain death. Maybe deep down that's what he wanted. Maybe deep down he just wanted to rejoin Balgroff and Salis. But Amos would not. How could he look Balgroff and Salis in the eye again if he wasted the chance they gave him? So with his mind settled Amos stayed where he was and just watched.

Now that he was finally composed Amos took his first good look at the winged man. He had short brown hair and looked middle age, He was tall and muscular, He wore aerodynamic light silver armor, in his hands he wielded two great swords, and his giant white wings were currently folded behind his back.

A few more seconds went by before anything happened. Finally, the man next to the winged man stepped forward. The man wore regular cloth clothing with only 2 daggers at his hip. Aside from the daggers he looked like a completely normal and average human. He had dark blond hair and an unremarkable face. But his eyes were sharp like that of snakes.

Amos would think of the guy as snake eyes. Snake eyes stepped forward. He took a deep breath and then roared out words. It was unbelievable how loud he was. Even to Amos from about 200 meters away he could hear him clearly.

"All of you here today have broken the law! You have attempted to break into the noble's district with malicious intent! Therefore you will all be considered revolutionaries! Although the king is being merciful today! Any that wish to live may leave! They will not be tried for their crimes! Although any who remain will be with swiftly as revolutionaries!"

After that there was silence. No one in the mob said a word. Everyone was equally astonished. Everyone there knew how the kingdom treated revolutionaries. Anyone who was anyone knew about the commoner revolution and how that turned out.

The commoners rose up against the nobles and although they killed many nobles the revolution ended with the death of hundreds of thousands of commoner deaths.

Once the reality of the situation set in some of the people finally began to move. As soon as they did a panic occurred. People ran in every which way. They ran into buildings, down alleys, and the Main Street. The only place not treaded was around the crater.

After about 5 minutes things finally went still again. During this whole time, the 2 men in the crater didn't even move a meter. They simply stood and watched as most of the mob dispersed.

Out of the 5000 people originally, only 500 stayed. These were the most dedicated and hateful of the mob.

The 500 surrounded the crater. The men continued to stand still. The Luddites now were waiting around the crater. All of them were afraid in one way or another. And none of them wanted to be the one to start it.

One Luddite in particular was facing the backs of the men and was sweating profusely. He heaved and panted. He tightly gripped the axe in his hand. Then he finally broke the silence. He yelled out as he charged forward towards the 2 men.

This was enough for the rest of the mob as they all then yelled and charged. Once the charge got close enough, the 2 men moved. The winged man made a spinning motion with his swords. The fastest of the mob were cut in 2. Their guts and upper halves were sent flying. Snake eyes ducked his head to avoid the blades. He then pulled out one of his daggers and cut into his other hand. Blood poured out of his hand.

There was something strange about his blood. Amos was getting a bad gut feeling about it. This was soon confirmed when he placed the hand over his mouth and blew. His blood turned into misty gas.

The winged man stopped spinning and pulled out a mask. He then placed the mask over his face.

Unfortunately for the Luddites, they didn't have masks. When they breathed in the misty gas they stopped. They then placed their hands on their throats and began screaming. Their throats were burning and their whole body felt on fire. As it turned out snake eyes blood was a special kind of acid!

The people collapsed as they writhed on the ground. Eventually, Their throats were so burned that they could no longer even scream.

Snake eyes finally stopped. Now both the winged man and snake eyes just watched the people as they slowly died. It was a grizzly sight. 500 people writhing in agony. Not even able to scream. But their pain was short-lived. Because soon they stopped moving altogether.

In the span of about 30 seconds, the duo managed to kill all of the 500 Luddites. They didn't even look like they broke a sweat.

Amos stood there shocked. It turns out the Snake Eyes was even stronger than the winged man. Now Amos knew for sure. If he went down there he would have died.

The duo didn't linger. The winged man gave his swords to the Snake Eyes. Then the winged man grabbed Snake Eyes by the arms. He then shot off back into the sky. And just like that, they were gone.

Amos could finally breathe a sigh of relief. Now that he could no longer see the winged man he could finally calm down.

After all of that, there was only one thought that went through Amos' head.

'What the fuck.'
