"The Faint Whisper of the Rain" - Chapter 3

(Finian)

Cuddling up to a warm fireplace with a warm cup of cocoa in my hands as a blanket gently drapes over me. I've always loved the rain in my past life.

The fuck is this? Rain water drips down from my rickety shed as it fills up a little cup I had placed to prevent it from flooding. There are currently 4 cups scattered all over the floor, slowly filling up with water as the rain continues. This is disgusting. Rodents and other insects have taken shelter in the crevices of my shed.

Violent knocking starts to fill the 4 walls and roof of my humble shed. A strange man knocking on my door,

"Please! Open up!"

He frantically shouts as his banging on my door makes the whole shed shake.

I sigh in defeat and get up to open the door. The man looks at me in shock, as if he was expecting no one to answer.

"Y-...you live here kid?"

The man asks in surprise, his hair and clothes drenched from the rain.

"Yes? What's it to you?"

I inquire in a harsh tone.

"May I come in? I've been traveling for hours and I have no place to stay."

That's bullshit.

"Please, come in. You must be tired sir."

I spoke as I open the door further and let him in.

The man quietly lays down on the bed. The only bed in the small shed. My bed.

I sit down on the floor and slowly wait for one of 4 cups to fill with rain water to drink.

The entire night was filled with the man trying to make conversation as I quickly shot him down and respond with silence.

"I'm Allan. What's your name?"

"Liam."

I don't wanna give him my real name. Not that it would matter.

The morning thereafter was filled with silence as I stare down at my shed, ransacked by that same man. I open the drawer in my small table and I was right. All my "valuables" gone.

I couldn't say nothing more. I sigh in defeat as I sit down on the bed and try to calm my nerves. Atleast he didn't kill me, I wish he did though.

I hate rainy days.

(Calista)

The quiet pittering of the rain on the balcony railings. It is peaceful. A quiet night and something that I can enjoy for a while. I've been spending more and more time in the knight's training grounds after all. I've got quite the talent for swordfighting.

Quietly, I yawn as the maid softly brushed my long black hair. My "father" sends me letter after letter asking for a response to the other and hoping to hear that I'm ok. It's taxing having to respond.

I could get used to my new life. I've always hated the rain in my past life, rain would've always disrupted crime scenes and running suspects. But now...I could get used to this quiet life.

A faint knock fills my ears as another maid enters the room and hands me a letter. It has the imperial family of Agres's seal on it. Is this important?

I open the letter and find a beautiful handwritten note inviting me for a visit at the palace...from the crown prince. I guess it was a mandatory thing for this prince to invite me to the palace. According to my memories he's supposed to dislike me.

I sigh and advise the maid to send him a reply that I would be able to come a few weeks later.

I take a few moments to think to myself about what the crown prince would want from me. To talk? To check up on me-... pft- no. To show off another mistress? Probably.

I love rainy days.
