Friends at First Sight

Maya decided to make origami weapons every day till the power wore off. She had to keep her stock and she also needed to distribute this to her family, then her tribe. The weapons were easy to use in danger. She had to make so many of them, maybe in millions.

It was good that she had powers and had the plants help her. But she could only make thousands not millions. Anyway, she made the weapons easily. She didn't feel tired while using her power.

She was extremely thankful for this intimate golden finger that thought about her and helped her. She wished that all her gold finger flowers would be the same.

Anyway, she could use any kind of power. No matter if it was deemed useless. She didn't want powers like invisibility or flying but she could like powers such as handwriting imitating or scanning.

Granted they had gadgets to do these, but having the power to do so was still cool.

Maya kept making weapons and packed them to send to her family. She had to tell them to not open it. For extra added security, she disguised them as books.

She knew how to use origami to make a book and just placed all the weapons inside them.

She was sure no one would open the books.

How?

Her parents weren't the studying types. They worked as perfumers. So they would think that she made some purchases.

Her younger sister was even more slippery.

She wouldn't even read a rhyming book. Maya had tried telling her stories to make her learn to read. But it backfired as she gave her puppy eyes and made her read it.

Kids are like Maya's kryptonite.

Maya smiled fondly at those memories. She felt like she never forgot anything. The real world must isolate these feelings from her.

They all came back once she was here.

This time, Maya was even more proficient at sneaking back. She did not get caught but she noticed someone sitting on the tree.

The tree was just opposite her dormitory window.

Who was spying on a spy?

Interesting.

Maya just stood below and the tree just shifted its branches slightly and helped her to climb up.

Maya slowly approached her target and then she yelled.

The person was shaken and he held the branch for his dear life.

"Its you, " both of them whispered at once.

Their noise alarmed the people nearby.

Maya jumped from tree to tree and finally hid on the closed balcony on the third floor of the boys' dormitory.

Maya had learned everything about the buildings here. It was precisely for this reason that she wouldn't get caught.

She then noticed that she was followed.

She silently rolled her eyes.

Two times a day.

The poster boy wasn't keeping his promise.

"Why? Are you stalking me?"

She huffed at him.

His face was bright red. She never thought this was possible.

"I'm just keeping an eye on you."

"You should know that is the same as stalking in my opinion. "

"I...I...I wanted to know if you are a problem."

"Problem?"

"You use magic differently. And that day, yesterday," he added as an afterthought.

"Yesterday, I saw you using magic to throw something at the chair in the cafeteria."

Oh. So he was here because of this. That was easy to resolve.

"That was some stuff from my inheritance. "

A perfect lie is the one you tell everyone so no one would doubt it.

"No. I saw you making it with magic."

Tough guy. Did he have some kind of binoculars or maybe a telescope?

"I don't understand. "

Maya put a very confused expression on her face. This was something she had learned in the real world.

Her acting was so brilliant that he seemed to believe it. Maya was amused. This guy was interesting.

"I don't believe you," He added.

She knew it.

"Whatever. Your wish. But don't follow me. And you are not allowed to hang out near my dorm. I will punch your pretty face."

She put on a fierce expression. It was convincing. She was bluffing again because she had never punched anyone. She could start with this guy though.

They were still whispering when the group of people came near the building.

They had to stay hidden. Because for one, they were in an unopened room and the other was that she wasn't supposed to be there.

If she was caught, it was easy to associate the sound before. And she exactly didn't use proper means to get to this place.

Maya cursed the glass railing of the balcony. She had to find a way to seem inconspicuous.

The poster boy was quick. He pulled a torn bean bag and moved near her so he seemed like its shadow.

That's why people wore black clothes when they spied.

She looked at herself. A white outfit.

She had to stay hidden but she tore the stuffing inside and the color somehow mixed with her.

The only thing to do was to remain quiet.

The vampires had an amazing sense of sight so fooling them was very difficult.

The warden was observing the balconies when suddenly she felt something was off. But she was quickly diverted.

The trees swayed and a large number of dried leaves fell. Also, she was attacked mentally which she didn't even know.

"You used magic," Maya whispered.

The poster boy was stiff all over trying to stay away from her. Maya also appreciated this or she would have punched him for real.

He didn't answer and the people left. The other people were not as powerful as the warden and they couldn't know their existence.

As soon as they left, Maya was about to get up.

The poster boy stuck his hand out and pulled her down. She was about to yell at him when he covered her mouth with his palm.

In some other worlds like parallel ones, this could be romantic if you are into this.

But he had hurt her nose. It hurt and even her front teeth were hit.

She winced in pain. She had to control herself and keep the pain at bay.

The warden came again to see if anything changed. She then left when she saw nothing changed.

This time, Maya dragged the poster boy to the trees near her dormitory.

The safest place was the dangerous place.

"You hurt me."

"Sorry. I miscalculated."

That wasn't going to cut it.

Maya understood that she shouldn't be angry because he was saving her too.

"I can stop identifying you as a 'to be observed' person."

Maya had to chuckle.

"You were going to do that because I would punch you otherwise."

"Then how about I tutor you?"

"School just started."

"Then I owe you a favor?"

Well, this was good. Favors are always good.

"Deal."

They shook their hands on it.

"I'm going and you are not going to camp here from now on."

He nodded.

Maya watched him leave and then she jumped from the tree to her balcony.

Good thing this school didn't have cameras yet.

Riya was not asleep.

"You shouldn't make a fuss. If you get caught, it would be bad."

She was right. If a student can find that she was being abnormal, then the teachers could too. They were more involved in this aspect anyway.

Maya decided to keep a low profile and do things in a quiet way.

She could make her weapons here too. But she had to hide from Riya.

Maya didn't want anyone to know about her ability.

Well, she would think of a reason tomorrow. She was good at improv.

But when Maya lay down to sleep, she found that sleep evaded her.

Maya was a person who fell asleep as soon as she hit the pillow.

She found that maybe it was because she was almost caught by the poster boy first and then the warden.

She totally ignored the nose and teeth ache which was still in its throbbing phase.

And then she circled back to her main thought. Why was the guy following her? She wasn't that confident to think that she was charming.

And he pointed out many times that he saw her doing magic weirdly.

Who was he? A magic inspector?

She snorted.

Then again, she solved the following thing from him.

Because she couldn't explain her actions no matter how many webs of lies she weaved.

But she liked teasing him. The guy was literally blushing because of her. Or he was blushing from anger. She couldn't tell.

The most obvious reason was anger.

She smiled. Maybe it would be good to be some friends with him. He should be her first friend.

The ones in the tribe didn't count because they were all joined at the hip from childhood and she had a rival kind of friendship with them.

And the real world was difficult. She was alone because she was an orphan. She didn't have any tethering relationships there.

It was the first time she felt to make friends.

But she also realized a problem.

She still didn't know his name.

She couldn't keep calling him poster boy, could she?

Haha, people concentrate on different things here in the plot, lol!
