Friends are your first loves

Maya waited to meet Nirup. He was the trigger point of her golden finger. And she didn't know how exactly it worked. But she was hoping that his proximity could make her hey her golden finger faster.

Nirup was not surprised to see her waiting for him. He sat down beside her. While he was observing her expressions from the corner of his eye, Maya was trying to figure out her new superpower. She didn't get any notification this time.

Or was the notification a one-time thing? She didn't know.

But she wasn't depressed about that. She was more interested in discovering her new power.

Nirup was greatly amused seeing her dumbstruck, pouting, sneaky, and surprised faces.

He smiled slightly.

Maya knew that she had some other power with her bow because she could not make anything with paper other than a rocket. She also knew how to make a boat. But those were what she learned when she was a kid.

So her origami powers were gone.

Then what power she had obtained now?

She wanted to know it more than anything.

But the powers did not manifest outside. She hoped for the voice to tell her like the last time. The voice wasn't present now.

She didn't listen to any of the classes. Nirup noticed her absent-mindedness but did not say anything.

"You know, Svi is crushing on the tv character in the show Now. She is an idiot, right?"

"Yes, she should be crushing on real people at least. what's the use of crushing on imaginary people? Other than heartache."

"Hehe."

"Also when will your cousin come to school? I'm not giving him notes this time."

"Don't give. It's because you liked him that he got good grades in the exams. If you don't give him notes, that idiot wouldn't get passing grades in his lifetime. What, are you sober now?"

"I just think that there are many guys out there. Why should I think about him? He can go to his sweet rose."

"I told you many times. I don't get why you like him. He is a brat honestly. Without my uncle, he will be beaten up in sacks someday. I hate him, you know, sometimes."

"I'm sorry. We should not forget our friendship because of a guy."

"Yes, best friends forever."

Aww. How cute. Maya listened to this with relish. Who were these cute girls?

She looked around. And there were only two people who could be considered.

Her two about to become bullies. Kriya and Hima.

She never knew they were this cute when they were not bullying someone. But then again, why would they bully people when they were this good? Because in Maya's opinion, it took guts to leave a guy and think friendship is important at the age where hormones run rampant and hold the reins of your brain.

Anyway, teenagers were weird.

Hey, wait a minute.

Maya was sitting in the last row of the outermost right side of the classroom. And those two were the same as her on the left side.

This distance wouldn't allow her to hear their murmurs.

She realized now. She had acute hearing ability.

But then why couldn't she hear what her nearby classmates were talking about?

"You know, I saw our warden sneaking into the cafeteria and she took two packets of cold drinks. Haha."

"We should report her anonymously. It would be fun, yeah."

Maya listened and found the culprits. It was two boys in the third row.

So she could hear only certain things. Like gossip.

Wow. So her new superpower was being able to hear gossip.

That was good, right?

She called the power Gossip Ear.

Hehe. Now no one would be spared.

She heard many secrets. Like who was copying homework, who cheated in finals, who bragged about meeting film stars. She was absolutely enjoying this.

"You are acting a little weird."

Nirup finally talked.

"Haha. No. I'm just thinking about some things. It's a common occurrence for me. Don't worry."

Nirup nodded in a puzzled manner.

It was all good till lunch.

The gossip made her burst her head. Everyone was gossiping in the cafeteria.

All this gave her a massive headache. What was she gonna do?

This super power was good but handling it required the guts of steel.

Which she didn't have.

"Hey, I'll go back today. I have to rest. I'm getting a headache."

"Are you okay? I'll take you to the school doctor."

Maya nodded.

Maya landed herself in sick bay on the first day of this superpower. She wanted to cry.

A very good power was like a waste in her hands.

She couldn't keep herself from using it. It was like an involuntary reaction. And she didn't have much time to learn how to control it.

So how was she going to do all this?

A very big problem.

Maya kept thinking in the quiet sick room and she didn't have any answer yet.

But gossip found her first.

She lay on the bed with no love, wanting to cry.

Maybe she would be the first person who would probably fall from not knowing how to use her superpower.

Ahhh, she screamed in her mind.

"What are you like a mad person?"

Her bonded friend asked her.

The plant shook leaves.

"Be hidden. Shh. Dint make noise."

"You know what. The principal is going bald. I saw him shopping for wigs."

"Really. I should go see this."

The two nurses gloated.

Maya felt sad for the principal. How much hatred he had gathered to be laughed at like this.

"See, I can hear some people's voices like this. But if I listen to many of them, I can't survive. What should i do?"

The bonded plant was curious.

"Why don't you listen to what you want and neglect what you don't want. I eat like that. If I don't need something, I don't see it."

A good idea. But Maya wasn't that disciplined. She had self-discipline that could rival an undisciplined person.

"You have to try."

Okay. What the plant said can be considered, Maya. Just try. What's the harm in trying?

So she went to the cafeteria again.

She almost vomited there. Why would there be people if the classes were going on? She could only go for dinner.

And that was her spying time.

She went back and fell asleep.

It was a good omen. If she could fall asleep it meant she wasn't stressed.

"Are you feeling well?"

Maya was startled by the sudden voice. Nirup was back. He brought her food. Porridge.

Anyway, she was hungry and she didn't complain about the porridge.

"Say what do you think will happen if you became a telepath?"

"Telepaths are really brave. If I hear someone talking in my mind all the time, I would go crazy. How would I know which thoughts are mine."

He was right. She felt really lucky that her powers switched after a week. Otherwise, with powers like these, she would go crazy really early.

"Do you want to go for a walk?"

Nirup nodded.

Maya then slowly closed her mind to the power. She only opened it a smidge. She wanted to hear one gossip at a time. Not all at once.

All at once made no sense. It was a garbled mess. And deciphering that made her go bald like her principal. Poor guy, though.

She was very happy to know that it worked.

Phew. Otherwise, she would have to stay in her dorm.

"Why is the new girl with the class leader? What's their relationship?"

"Whatever it is, the concerned person hasn't come to school yet. Maybe that girl Riya will be in the infirmary when she comes to school."

Wait, what was that?

She understood that the class leader should be the fiance. AND the girl they were talking about should be someone from a prestigious family who hadn't attended school yet. She would attend after the freshers' ceremony.

So her friend had a rival in love, eh?

Interesting.

Was it this person who crippled her later? How to know? All the questions swirled in Maya's mind very fast. She didn't get any answers at that speed.

If only.

If only you get answers at that speed, you will be a winner in everything.

Maya was sighing continuously and Nirup paid attention to this.

Maybe something happened at her home, he thought. He should do something to cheer her up.

So after leaving her at her dorm, he went back and made a wooden carving. It was a cat playing with a small plant. The plant was a miniature version of her bonded plant.

He worked on it and didn't paint. He couldn't go get the paints now. So he sneaked and put it in her window.

Maya who was thinking about how to tell Riya all this saw the kitten and felt relieved.

The cute wood carving made her so happy that all the troubles felt like nonsense at the moment.

Maybe gifts from your loved ones were like lethal weapons.

They can make your mood go from nearly dying to happy living.

She was happy.

And she wanted Riya to be happy.

So instead of worrying now, it was better to tell her and figure out a solution together.

Nirup was a fairy. Without wings.
