Chapter 15: A City's Welcome

As John and Elara neared the gates of the distant city, excitement and anticipation filled the air. The vibrant cityscape loomed before them, a testament to the wonders that lay within its walls. But fate had other plans for their arrival.

Suddenly, a barrage of tiny, dart-like objects flew towards them. The needles were adorned with a mysterious liquid that seemed to emanate a tranquilizing aura. Before either of them could react, the drowsy effect overpowered them, and they collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Within moments, the vigilant city gate guards spotted the fallen adventurers and rushed to their aid.

Carrying them inside the city, the guards placed them in a well-equipped room designated for medical emergencies. John stirred from his slumber, feeling groggy and disoriented. As he opened his eyes, he found himself surrounded by unfamiliar faces and medical apparatus.

A kind physician approached him, her eyes filled with concern. "Welcome back to the land of the conscious," she said, her voice soothing. "You were attacked by sleeping needles just outside the city gates. But worry not, you are safe now."

John tried to sit up but found himself still weak from the tranquilizing effect of the needles. "Elara... is she alright?" he asked, his voice laced with worry.

The physician smiled reassuringly. "Your companion is also recovering in a nearby room. She will be fine," she replied. "The tranquilizer used in the needles is potent but not lethal. You both just need some rest to fully recover."

As the minutes passed, John's strength slowly returned, and he was able to sit up and take in his surroundings. The room was clean and well-furnished, with shelves filled with medical supplies and potions. The city's efficiency in attending to their well-being impressed him.

His thoughts then turned to Elara. "Can I see her?" he inquired, eager to check on his friend.

The physician nodded and led John to an adjacent room. Elara lay on a comfortable bed, her expression serene as she slept. Her injuries had been treated, and she seemed peaceful, as if the battle with the sleeping needles had never occurred.

Relief washed over John as he saw her safe and sound. He couldn't help but feel grateful for the swift response of the city's guards and medical team.

The physician smiled warmly. "Both of you are fortunate to have been brought to our city," she said. "We have a skilled team of healers and guards who ensure the safety of our residents and visitors. You are in good hands."

John thanked the physician for their care and attention, a sense of gratitude and wonderment filling him. He had heard tales of the city's efficiency and hospitality, but experiencing it firsthand made all the difference.

When they were fully recovered, John and Elara ventured out into the city, eager to explore its bustling streets and immerse themselves in the vibrant culture.
