Eveline stayed still in his arms. His breath brushed over her skin as he buried his face in the crook of her neck.
"You scared me, Gabriel," she said as his lips brushed against her and he paused.
Sensing his uncertainty, she inquired, "What happened to you suddenly and how did you-"
"I remembered everything, Eve."
His comments were like a bucket of cold water thrown in her face, and she stared at him in bewilderment.
Gabriel knew why she hesitated to love him again. He suddenly grasped the significance behind her perplexing remarks.
After everything she had to go through in her previous life, Eveline wasn't incorrect in her position to never expose her heart to him. Nor would it explain his incompetence in concealing information from his wife.
The only thing Gabriel did wrong was wait for the perfect moment to tell her how he felt, but by then he had already lost her and that moment had never come.
