Battle of the Berserkers

A huge man with reddish hair and beard, wearing a black kilt and topless, stood in front of Mortis and looked him straight in the eye. But Mortis didn't bat an eyelash and just said, "Are you going to keep staring or are we going to start now, champion of.... well, of anything?"

The Ginger roared in Mortis' face, "I am the champion of Skargul, the bloodthirsty berserker of darkness! You are nothing more than the servant of a mead!"

"You want to be a berserker and you dare to talk about my... like that? speak? I'll show you what a berserker is!" roared Mortis, and she slammed a right hook under Gurdalf's chin, causing him to slam into the ceiling above and see stars. As Gurdalf fell back down, however, Mortis didn't give him a chance to touch the ground, let alone grab hold of himself. Mortis grabbed his feet and spun with him, then hurled him against the nearest wall, which Gurdalf broke through and landed in the next passage.

Gurdalf put that away and was about to get up when he saw Mortis stepping out of the hole in the wall. Both of his eyes were fiery red and pulsing as smoke rose from his mouth. The place that held Mortis from the wall crumbled to sand under his brute strength.

The champion smiled, thinking that Mortis had gone insane - which was partially true - but the insanity was of a violent bloodlust. Mortis charged at Gurdalf with clenched fists. The latter lunged wide and hurled both his axes at the same time to gain some time. But Mortis did not retreat, catching both axes with his pectorals and not letting the blades that stabbed into him bother him. Undeterred, he continued to charge at the champion, lunging wide and striking with full force. The blow hit Gurdalf square in the face, whereupon he rolled over several times, crashed into the nearest wall and flew through it as well.

Gurdalf got angry and tried to get up faster, yelling, "This is getting..." but he couldn't finish. Mortis jumped on his chest with both knees and continued to punch at his face while the champion of Skargul was still slithering across the floor. As Gurdalf tried to fight back and held his hands in front of his face, Mortis grabbed them, rolled forward over him and hurled Gurdalf against the nearest wall. This time he didn't break through it, but stuck to it. As soon as he stuck there, Mortis jumped against his back with a dropkick, and they both broke through the wall.

Now they were in the next hallway, where Elysia was still in the cell with her aunt. The two watched the fight between Mortis and Gurdalf raging wildly and mercilessly. Without regard for losses, they beat each other, causing a trail of devastation.

But no matter how much the berserker tried to downplay the damage and inflict damage himself, he had to admit that he was at a complete disadvantage. With each blow, Mortis grew wilder and stronger, and so the Berserker was forced in front of the cell where Elysia stood and watched as Mortis wiped the floor with this so-called champion, pummeling him further and further into the bars that were slowly beginning to buckle. Elysia couldn't even do anything with her weapon.

Then, as Gurdalf was almost losing consciousness, the words "I give up" came out of his mouth. But Mortis took a long swing, and it looked like he was going to finish him off, when a portal opened and a blond god stopped Mortis. The god then flicked against Mortis' forehead, and he sank into sleep.

"Oho, I see I also got carried away and opened the connection to us too wide. But I hate it when someone says something against my wife. However, I like you, little one. To come from such a weak world and still have such a fighting spirit is rare. I'll take you with me. After all, you still have to apologize to my wife," the god said, taking the champion of Skargul with him.

After a short time Mortis woke up again and realized that he had lost consciousness again, because he was surrounded by his spirits again. They watched over the fact that really nobody could approach him, not even Elysia or her aunt, who watched the spectacle.

Curious, her aunt asked Elysia, "Is that Count Mortis of Bamberg, the Lord of the Dead, the Hero of the North?" Elysia looked at her aunt in confusion and said, "Yes, that is Mortis, but what kind of titles are those?" The aunt explained, "Girl, I know you ran away from home, but even in the last corner of this continent it should be known who is the hero of this century."

Mortis became awake and fitter as his spirits healed him and he also collected some more souls. He answered himself, "Yes, I am, and who are you, madam? For except that I know you are Elysia's aunt, I'm afraid I have no idea who you are."

The aunt explained, "I am the baroness of this town, and I was overpowered by a shapeshifter, who then took my place, it seems." Mortis knew myths from his old world, but it seemed there really were such beings in this world. This almost gave him a headache, because if this was true, even nobles could be replaced. How could he be sure who was playing what game here? But he put these thoughts aside for the moment, because now he wanted to get out of this catacomb.

So he stood up when he was at his best again, as he received a message, "Moved up 2 levels, give out 20 SP." Mortis didn't think twice and put them into strength this time.

Mortis brushed himself off and secretly gave the order to take all valuables to the border, as he had no more room in his camp. Then he lifted the Baroness, who was not really able to move, and said that Elysia could now get the other people. Even though he opened their cells, he told them to wait, and because of the destroyed walls, they would still sit in the cells fearfully. After about 10 minutes, there was a rush of people, and they all set out to leave these catacombs.

Up in the city, things quickly became chaotic as hundreds of people wandered the streets with wounds and rags. The soldiers were immediately alarmed, but as they got closer to survey the situation, they saw a young man carrying a middle-aged woman with purple hair. When the soldiers recognized their baroness, they immediately fell to their knees and greeted her with tears in their eyes. A soldier was sent to run into the castle and report, which did not take long for a response. A man came rushing like lightning, with tears in his eyes, to take his beloved Rose in his arms. Full of tears, the baron apologized to his wife, but he swore that he had recognized the demon immediately. But no matter where he looked, he did not find her. For Rose, these were the words she needed to forget the agony and to imagine that her lover would not know the difference between her and a shapeshifter. So the Baroness also cried again and was happy to be in her husband's arms.
