Chapter Two

Cara Jean...Cara Jean...Cara Jean

You can't escape me, little dove.

I'm right here waiting, waiting .

You were somewhere dark, the faint musty smell of abandonment filling your nostrils. Your eyes tried to adjust, but they burned from the dust.

You was completely vulnerable, even your ears seemed to be having trouble.

Soon arms snaked around you, claws dragging against your stomach.

Panic took control of you, body thrashing uncontrollably.

"GET OFF GET OFF GET OFF! STOP! LEAVE ME ALONE!" You sobbed, your efforts useless.

No CJ, No.

I can't let them get you.

Not until I have made you understand.

I sent you here so you'd realize you need me.

You need me.

"NO I DON'T! I DON'T NEED YOU ASSHOLE!" You body shook, waves of emotions crashing throughout her mind.

Memories flashed through your mind, images burning. You couldn't stop crying.

BEEP BEEP BEEP

You woke up in shock, your cheeks wet with tears. Your chest was heaving, hands shaking like leaves.

"It's not real it's not real it's not real." You tried to tell yourself, hugging your knees to your chest.

Looking at your phone she saw it was 6, school started at 7. You needed to get yourself ready.

Shakily you stood up, walking over to your suitcase. You pulled out an oversized t-shirt, a pair of mom jeans, and some socks.

Still trying to catch your breath you threw them on, dragging yourself into the bathroom. Your brush caught on the knots as you untangled you're hair, making you wince. You quickly brushed your teeth, washed your face, peed, and made your way to the kitchen.

Figures, the cabinet and fridge were empty. You cursed yourself, stepping into some shoes. You still had time to let Squish out and grab a snack.

You quickly got him ready, and rushed out the door. He did his business on a tree, clearly understanding the time crunch. Running back upstairs you put them back inside

"You good alright? I'll be back at like 2:40." You grabbed your backpack, slammed the door, and locked it in one fluid motion.

"CJ! Ready for your first day?" Peter was walking out his door too, he had a nerdy tee and jeans on.

"No. I didn't get any sleep, and the place is still barely livable. Plus I have no food, so I need to get something on the way." You fell into step beside him, eyes fixed on the floor.

"I slept pretty good. I was up doing homework. Hey, do you want me to help you clean tonight? I'm free." Peter's eyes pleaded with you, his lip pouting. He clearly wanted you to say yes.

"Yeah whatever, I'm warning you it's disgusting though. And wear gloves, I have a feeling you don't want to touch that stuff." You laughed slightly, your body still coming down from the nightmare.

After a short walk, and a stop at a smoothie place, you arrived at what you assumed was the high school. There was a good amount of kids going inside, some hanging out front.

"This is the most generic looking school ever. Guess that means it'll be easy to fit in." Your voice had an edge, body tense.

"I'll walk you to the office, you're gonna be fine. Trust me." Peter smiled down at you, leading the way through the packed halls.

Your body was in defense mode, walls at max security. Nobody here was going to know anything about your past. Not even Parker.

'Don't show your fear, don't show emotion. Keep it locked Cara.' Your mind screamed, jaw stiff.

"Hey sexy, you must be new. I'm flash. Why don't you walk with a real man, not Penis Parker over there." A boy walked up to you, flashing a smile.

You showed no emotion, walking past him into the office.

Peter stifled a laugh, walking to his locker. Flash only scowled, stomping away.

'What a donkey.' You thought to yourself, walking to the front desk.

"Um I'm Cara Jean Hart, it's my first day here." You stood awkwardly, eyes scanning the room.

"Here's your schedule, I'll send someone up to be your buddy." The lady smiled, sliding a paper towards you.

"Thanks." You tried to smile, but it just looked weird.

After 5 awkward minutes a boy appeared in the doorway, smiling warmly. He had black hair and olive skin, he seemed friendly.

"Hi! I'm Ned, it's great to meet you! Are you the teen Peter told me about? His new neighbor? Anyways, I'm guessing we have the same schedule. Lemme check." Ned spoke fast, holding his hand out.

You handed him the sheet, expression still cold. Though the boy meant no harm, you could not bring yourself to be friendly.

"This is great! You have my exact schedule, and almost all of those classes have Peter too! You are his new neighbor, right?" He continued to grin.

"Yes I am. I'm CJ."

"I was right then! How are you liking Queens? Where'd you move from?" Ned began firing questions at you, most of which you didn't answer.

"It's alright. I'm from Toronto." Deep down you liked the kid, but the whole new school thing made you on edge.

They could be anywhere, anyone. There were scientists and governments looking for you everywhere. They knew about your father's work, and they wanted it for themselves.

A few of the men sent after her included Quinn DiNatino, he worked for the secret service. Jaiden Klark, he ran his own lab specializing in animals. And finally Easton Rye, he was your father's apprentice.

Until your father went psycho and fired his whole staff.

You had to have eyes on the back of your head to stay alive. Those sons of bitches are sneaky.

"Here we are! Our first period, math!" Ned's smile hadn't faded yet, and you were starting to hate looking at it.

"How wonderful." You deadpanned, spotting Peter across the room.

"CJ! Ned's your buddy, that's great! That means you're in a bunch of my classes." Peter seemed excited at first, but soon became shy.

You rolled your eyes, turning around to face Flash.

"No." Is all you said, looking at Peter again.

"I guess that's fine. Won't really matter anyways." You could hear Flash grumbling behind you.

"May wants to meet you, i told her about yesterday." Peter's confident attitude from the day before was replaced by a quiet demeanor.

"Maybe I'll see her when you come over to help clean." You didn't understand why, but he was comforting.
