Chapter Six

"I still can't believe you figured me out that fast." Peter's head was in his hands.

"Don't beat yourself up. I mean, you know that I have wings. We both have new found secrets that have been revealed." You gazed at him, your legs dangling off the edge.

"I guess you're right. You don't seem as shocked as I am."

"Look, nothing really shocks me anymore. I can hear ghosts. And I have goddamn wings."

"Yeah. W-Why do you have wings? Like was your mom a human and your dad a bird. That'd be weird." Peter began to ramble about birds.

"Alright let me give you the rundown. My dad is a scientist, classic cliche right there. My mom was one too. They had five girls before me. Money got tight, no shocker there. Mom just had to pump us all out. My dad became obsessed with the idea of combining humans and animals, wanted to be famous.

After he ran out of volunteers he had the great idea to use his kids. After Lana and Roxy were killed during testing mom started to lose it. Her daughters were dead. She turned to drugs, got really toxic, my dad sent her away.

One by one my sisters died, it was a brutal waiting game. They didn't even get funerals. After three years I was up. Pop strapped me to the table, science stuff going on. I was knocked out so I have no idea what happened. Next thing I know my world is white, and I can see my sisters. They're watching me, they looked sad. Before I can say anything I'm ripped back into reality.

It felt like I was sucked into my own body. I died and came back. He restarted my heart. Now I have these things coming out of my back, but when I looked again they disappeared. I could control their visibility. Other scientists find out, my dad gets scared. He sends me here to lay low.

Wham bam thank you ma'am here I am Sam." You let out a deep breath, that was a lot of words.

"Y-You had sisters?" Peter was at a loss for words.

"Kit, Lana, Drew, Nin, Roxanne. My mom gave us the wackiest names. Roxy and I shared a room, she was into all that cool hippie stuff. Her hair was long and crazy, she wore flowy clothes, she sang for me. She was great. I miss them so much." You stared at the skyline, trying to keep your emotions under control.

"I'm so sorry CJ. I can't imagine losing my siblings and my mom. I lost my parents too. I understand your pain. There was a tragic accident when I was little." He tried to wrap an arm around you, but you dodged.

"I don't do hugs. God Peter, look at us. Orphaned teens who can spin webs and fly. What did we do to deserve this?" You let yourself fall, your back hitting the concrete.

The stars were unimaginably bright, the moon full. It was almost perfect.

"I mean I was bit by a radioactive spider, I feel like I just had bad luck. You were forced into this." Peter joined you.

"Alright enough wallowing In self pity, we need to test out my powers."

~Queue Power Testing Montage~

Test #1: Super Strength

"Okay try to push this old train car like I do." Peter stood in front of the piece of junk, easily pushing it across the track.

You pushed with all your strength, even banging on it with your fists.

After thirty minutes you gave up and collapsed on the ground.

Test #2: Super Speed

"Try to run as fast as you can." Peter sat on the old train car, as you stood at the other end of the yard.

"Alright alright you got this. Go go CJ-Ranger." You ran as fast as you could, but it was barely an average sprint.

Test #3: Telekenisis

"Try to lift the train car with your mind." Peter stood beside you now.

You stared at it, focusing as hard as you could. Nothing. You tensed yourself to the point where you looked like you were dying. Nothing.

Three Hours Later

Test #140: Super Smell

"What scent is this candle?" Peter stood a mile away, holding some random candle. He was talking on the phone to you.

You sniffed, sniffed, sniffed. Only the smell of dust and garbage.

"Um Winterbottom Unicorn Fart?" You responded.

"Alright another fail."

Three More Hours Later

Test #287: Super Sneezes

"Okay," Peter yawned. "Final one, I'm so tired and we have school in two hours. Try to sneeze as hard as you can."

You sniffed some of the dust on a nearby light, but only sneezed generically.

"Nope."

~ End Power Testing Montage ~

"So i guess I don't have powers. This sucks. I'm so tired I wanna go to bed." You were grumpy on the walk home, your wings invisible again.

"You can still fly though. That's a power." Peter said through his mask.

"Yeah yeah whatever. Shit." You spotted a flash of a camera, and a figure running away.

"Go get em Spider-Bitch, I'm a civilian right now." You smacked Peter's ass, sending a flustered spider into action.

When Peter came back to you he was empty handed.

"They got away. Just disappeared without a trace. Oh my god, if something gets out that you know me. You're so done." Peter began to panic, but you weren't as concerned.

"Chill it out. One, you're not famous. Two, I can just say you were walking me home. Easy peasey. Plus I can hold my own." You patted his shoulder, finishing your trek home.

"I'm going to make coffee, I'll make sure to bring you some when we go to school. Thanks for a fun night." You allowed yourself to smile, walking into the building alone.

Peter disappeared to get in Spider-Man style.

It was too late to go back to bed, so you settled down to watch some TV. You turned on Supernatural and drank an espresso shot. Squish groggily found his way beside you, knocking out. You finally felt peaceful.

Peter was a good kid, a great friend. You could already feel yourself developing feelings for him, but they were quickly buried. Crushes were stupid.

Two hours passed and finally it was time for school. You did your normal routine, chugged coffee, and met Peter in the hallway.

"Morning princess." You handed him a cup of coffee, he downed it.

"You should check your phone." He rubbed his face as he spoke.

Whipping it from your pocket you saw all the DM notifications. It seemed like everyone and your mother had texted you. And the one thing they all had in common, the word Spider-Man.

Ned Leeds Messaged You: OH MY GOD ARE YOU DATING THE SPIDER-MAN FROM YOUTUBE?!?!?! HEIXNDGSUSVEJSK

You: Chill out Neddy-Boy he was just walking me home. We're not dating.

"God today is going to be hell. Isn't it normal for people to be helped by superheroes? Or is it because I'm a teen." You finished your coffee, tossing the cup in a nearby trash can.

Today you decided to take the subway, you were both too tired to walk. Peter pretty much guarded you as people tried to ask about Spider-Man.

When you finally arrived at school your worst fears came true. Everyone was going nuts. But why? Why do they care so fucking much?

"Hey look, it's Spider-Man from YouTube's girlfriend!" Flash yelled, turning everyone's attention to you.

"Just shut up." You groaned, grabbing Peter's arm and dragging him to your locker.

The day felt like torture, you just didn't understand why they cared this much. Peter wasn't even that famous. They're acting like he's Iron Man.

By the time it was lunch you were already close to snapping, and something would definitely make you break.

"Why can't people leave me alone?! He walked me home, that's it! Jesus Christ!" You slammed your fist on the table causing Ned to jump.

"They have nothing better to do. They'll forget by tomorrow." Peter sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"If they don't I'm going to lose it." Almost as If summoned Flash walked over to your table, your words slipping out of your tongue.

"Hey, is Spider-Man hot? Or is it really ugly? He has to be hot to get you." Flash grinned, you growled.

"I swear to god-" you began, but Peter stopped you.

"He doesn't deserve your energy."
