Training

I have had an excellent Monday so far and actually, this chapter is sponsored by my college class this afternoon being canceled so yeah let's begin.

-------

After finishing his cup of coffee James made his way into his bedroom. He closed the door behind him as he walked to the right side of the bed and reached as far as he could for a small metal tin. The tin wasn't anything special as it was just a metallic silver tin that had clearly housed coffee before being used to house James' savings.

James reached into the tin and pulled out a large wad of money barely held together by 2 rubber bands. James takes the wad and drops the can on his bed where the coins at the bottom of the tin rattle inside.

'jackpot!' was all James could think about as he slowly counted the money. The majority of the money in the tin was singles with a few twenties and hundreds mixed in. All in all, James counted close to three thousand dollars saved up.

James smiled at the amount his predecessor had saved up. He leaped off the bed with excitement as he as he ran out of the room grabbed his discarded white running shoes and coat and left the apartment within a blink.

He left his apartment and spent the next few hours running around shopping for new things and gathering a much better wardrobe. After hours and hours of shopping James gather the many bags filled with shoes and clothes and walked back to his apartment. Once back to his apartment he put down all the bags and returned right back out to the street to find the last thing he needed to find.

He wandered for an hour trying to find a good barber to get his hair cut. He finally landed at a decent-looking barbershop. The inside of the barbershop was crowded as man men young and old sat around waiting for their cut laughing and conversing. James entered the barbershop and for a brief moment, all eyes were on him as he quietly found a chair in the corner and sat. The others didn't pay much attention to the odd-looking boy that is until an old barber who was cutting a young man's hair asked him a question.

"Hey, kid whaddya think about all the property damage caused by the Avengers? I personally think that it's not that bad considering what they fight but maybe I'm just old and crazy"

James adopted a thoughtful look on his face before responding "While the property damage is bad I wouldn't want to fight giant lizard monsters that can breath fire and fly so I think we should give them so slack y'know cuz its better for us to lose a building or a block than to lose everything".

The customers listened to the young man seemingly hanging on to every word.

The old barber was the first to speak after "Ha! You're right kid my old bones certainly can't fight those monsters the Avengers fight" After that the barbershop erupted in a boisterous conversation where James was able to jump in every now and again to weigh in his two cents.

James waited for an hour for his turn in the chair and when that urn came he knew exactly what he wanted, he trimmed his bangs to something more manageable and faded the sides of his head leaving just the top.

---------

The very next day James woke up much earlier than the day since he knew that he needed to be acclimated with his powers. He had surface-level control over all his abilities but he knew that surface-level control wasn't near enough for him to confidently run into the face of danger so he figured that he needed to really train his abilities and test the limits of his physical capabilities.

He crawled out from under the covers and walked to his closet where he brought baggy grey sweatpants a black hoodie and some black running shoes and left. He kept a light jog for 10 miles straight barely breaking a sweat but the real challenge was yet to come. Once he had left the more populated area he ramped up his speed to about thirty miles per hour which was considerably faster than he was running previously but it wasn't close to the fastest he could go. He ran at that pace for another ten minutes before arriving at his destination a small dilapidated warehouse that was frequented by homeless people though most were removed thanks to a new city ordinance.

"This'll do for now"

*Sigh*

James jumped right over the barbed wire fence carefully evading the small cameras that were posted to record any trespassers. James stealthily made his way to the massive warehouse area. He walked through the place and spent a few minutes moving clutter away so that he had free reign to let loose.

Once he cleared the area he went to the far end of the warehouse and got into a starting position crouching low to the ground. In a second He flew forward putting all his strength into the long and powerful strides that took him right to the other side of the warehouse in the blink of an eye.

James dug his feet deep into the concrete beneath his feet to prevent himself from crashing through the door to the warehouse and revealing himself.

"Woah!" was all James could say as he was completely shocked at the level of speed he displayed. He was running close to eight five miles per hour which was quite something because Spiderman isn't a character known for his superhuman running.

Once he had managed to test his speed he decided to test his strength, he gathered some of the broken down and decrepit pieces of stone that had crumbled from the structure of the old broken-down warehouse. Once he gathered the many pieces of heavy rubble in one pile he used his webs to bind them together until he created an extremely heavy ball of pure mass.

James stretched and limber up as he grabbed at the ball and hoisted it up in one swift motion, he held the ball over his head for about 30 seconds before the weight of the ball was too much and he was forced to let it go. James determined that the man may have weight close to 15 tons which meant that he was a force to be reconned with physically.

He had very little need to practice his wall-crawling since the ability to stick to surfaces was quite straightforward.

His webbing however needed to be tested to ensure that it do more good than bad. James stood upside down on the dilapidated ceiling of the warehouse, he fired a web line from his wrist bringing the heavy ball of cement and scrap metal to him. The ball was easily yanked in the direction of James who kept the ball suspended over the ground with just his web and while it was durable it just wasn't able to hold the nearly 15-ton ball of stone and scrap metal in the air for longer than eight seconds. Once he had determined that his web was durable enough to hold up weight as well as being able to bind multiple different objects together he only had one more test.

"I hope this doesn't hurt too much" was all James said as he grit his teeth. He began to discharge his webbing from his spinnerettes going without stopping for 45 minutes straight once past the 45-minute mark he felt a pain in his wrists but he persisted for another 15 minutes before his spinnerets stopped producing. James looked at the pile of web fluid slightly panicked as to how he was going to depose of a pile of web fluid when he heard...

*Bang!* *Clang*

James turned his head to the source of the noise only to find his weight ball's adhesive webbing dissolving. James made a small note of the 2-hour window that the web fluid takes to dissolve.

He just leaves returning the warehouse to its state of disarray and hiding the webbing behind all the miscellaneous trash that litter the warehouse.

James wanted to continue but his roaring stomach said otherwise so, for now, he was forced to train another day.

-----------

I'm sorry there wasn't a lot of dialogue and character interaction I promise that in the next chapter the character is going to interact with the world a lot more.

In the chapter, I just wanted to show that he is going to train his powers and he's not going to rely on the basic control that the system gave him.
