Chapter 10

Jane was sitting in the same chair as before, but this time, she looked as if she was waiting on them, rather than the other way around. It figured that a Ranger wouldn’t have to wait for her to finish painting her nails.

“Hello, and welcome to Leonis Alpha 305,” she said with a slick, crimson smile. “How was your flight here? Have you ever been to the Regulus system before? I’m the mayor on station, Jane Callum.”

They shook hands, eying one another. Liberty stood in the corner nearest the door, leaning against the wall. This should be interesting.

“I’m Captain Riordan Dalhart.” He gave the woman what he hoped was a charming smile. “A Ranger of Legacy, as I’m sure you’ve been informed. I’ve never been anywhere near Regulus, so I hope to get in a tour of the region before leaving.”

“When are you leaving?” Jane asked, smiling pleasantly. The expression didn’t reach her eyes, surveying him coldly and intently. “I’m sure we can accommodate you here, Captain.”
