The Weasleys

Quinn felt a bit awkward when Harry had a heartfelt reunion with his best friend and received a big hug from Molly Weasley. Soon they were both invited in and seated at a large table where Harry began telling them about what happened to his letters. While he told his tale others joined them at the table. First was Percy who seemed all too tense for his own good. Then came a young girl who instantly sat down as far away from Harry as possible and just sweetly stole glances in his direction. Then came the loud bunch, the weasley twins. He remembered them of course. Seemed like alright blokes but maybe not quite his style. He greeted them all the same and they started questioning him.

"How come you're joining Hogwarts now?" Said one.

"Which year are you in?" Said the other.

"Any house that's close to heart already?" Said the first one.

"Any woman that's close to heart already?" Said the second one with a wink.

Quinn laughed at them but answered anyway. "I'm joining the fifth year Ravenclaws as their prefect. I imagine there might be some uproar as I'm the new kid but believe me that I'll show them up. And no, there is no woman currently. Though I do have eyes so I have spotted a few of interest."

The twins were surprised but Percy was almost livid. "Prefect?! Preposterous! Why would they make a transfer student a prefect?" Molly heard what he said and although she was also surprised she sternly told him to quiet down. Quinn raised his hand "It's okay. There are several explanations. One of which is that I'm taking nine NEWTs this summer so they thought I'd have the extra time." That silenced Percy out of shock. "And also because Flitwick seems to like me."

One of the twins asked "How come you're taking your NEWTs before your fifth year?"

The other one added "You some kind of supergenius?!"

Quinn smiled wistfully. "I was an apprentice under a well known Wandmaker in America for quite a while. He died earlier this summer so now I'm taking exams covering what he taught me over the years. Not a genius at all. I think you'll realise that as soon as school starts" They shared a chuckle at that while Molly served them an absolutely wonderful casserole. The rest of the meal was pleasant to everyone. Calm conversations where everyone pitched in other than a quiet shy little girl who didn't dare do anything other than glance at her obvious crush.

After dinner and a good amount of time spent getting to know the family, Quinn stood up from the table. "Thank you all for welcoming us into your home. The meal was wonderful, and the company fantastic, but I think we need to get to Hogwarts before Dumbledore starts wondering where we went." Harry agreed and they all walked over to the front doors to say our goodbyes. "Percy, see you at the prefect kickoff. Fred, George..keep your studies up and I might teach you a bit of woodworking. Ginny.." he leaned into her and whispered. "Just talk to him. He doesn't have many people around him so if you become his friend he will be grateful for the company. Think about it." She nodded with a heavy blush as Quinn shook Arthur's hand. "Pleasure to meet you. I must say, you have a lovely home and family. I hope to meet you all sometime again." They shared a smile that meant it was definitely a possibility.

After Harry said his goodbyes as well, they found the nearest road and got on the bus to Hogsmeade and walked from there. "Don't forget to write to your other friends tonight. And a house elf will come and pick up your stack of mail.." They shared a small chuckle at the irony. "Be sure to read it through, there might be something important in there." Harry nodded but then he realized there were a few things he hadn't thought of yet.

"Where will I be staying now? Will I have the Gryffindor Tower all to myself?" Quinn shrugged. "If you want to. You could also come live with me and my mother for the week. There's plenty of room to put in another bed and I'm sure my mother wouldn't say no to some company while I'm exercising and practising my spells. She's also very grateful to you, you know?"

"I think I'll try the tower this first night. If it's too lonely I'll consider it. Thank you again, for all this." Quinn waved it off. "Don't worry about it.. What use is money if not spent?" He gave the boy a genuine smile which seemed to calm him down. "I'll see you at breakfast Quinn!" And then they went their separate ways.

Quinn went to the infirmary. He knocked on the door and opened. "Poppy? You here?" "In the back!" He went back there and found her making a checklist of what potions she needed. "What's up Q? You're not injured are you?" She didn't take her eyes off the wares.

"No no. I'm fine. I do have a question and I'm not sure you'll be able to answer it but I'll ask anyway…" she raised an eyebrow and looked his way. "It's about Harry. You examined him at the start of his year right?" She put down her quill and now fully met him, still wondering where this was going.

"No. People born into magical families are all called into St Mungos the week before their first year. You know this Q, don't you remember your first year?" He sighed "Harry didn't get that check up. His muggle relatives would never have allowed it." Her eyes widened. "St Mungos must have assumed he chose a private alternative like most of the old families. Damn it!" She scribbled something down and then went to finish up her work. "He'll get his check up when he arrives at school in September."

Quinn gave her a smug smile. "Um, actually...Harry's here right now. You could take him in after breakfast tomorrow." She raised her eyebrow again but let it be. "Great. I'll make sure to do so." He stuck around for a bit of conversation. By the end he told her his suspicions about Harry's home life. After that she wanted to get him in there right away but Quinn stopped her. "Let him rest for tonight. It's been an exciting day after all."

The two parted and Quinn only practised his Occlumency that evening, before sleep took him. The next morning he took his mother down to eat breakfast in the great hall instead, and to meet Harry of course. They met right outside the doors "Harry!" The boy turned his head around quickly and met them with a relaxed smile. "Quinn, Mrs. Quirrell." Queenie wouldn't have that, so she walked over to him and wrapped his arms around him.

"None of that. I owe you far too much to let you call me by anything other than my first name. Also it's Ms. not Mrs. by the way." She quickly let him go but gave him a warm smile. "It's nothing really but I'll gladly call you by your name." Queenie always had a way to make people feel at ease around her. Quinn always wondered why she didn't remarry after his father died when he was young, it's not like men haven't been interested. Oh well.

They had a pleasant breakfast together after the staff was over the surprise of Harry. Flitwick, ever the excited little man, was over the moon when Harry asked him about his mother. He went on to explain all about what it was like teaching someone who just sucked up any kind of knowledge and made it her own as if it were nothing. Harry seemed to be very happy to hear his mother praised like that.

After the meal, Harry followed Poppy to the infirmary and Quinn resumed his work to improve himself. He would start cramming today.

A/N: I will not go into what Poppy found out in that infirmary, but just assume it was some missed vaccines and the need for nutrient potions.

I'm not portraying it very well but imagine Queenie Quirrell just exuding an aura of calmness. She has an effect on people which just makes them relax and smile. It that's because of some latent magical ability (She's a squib remember) or just because she's an incredibly lovely woman, who knows?
