He grabbed his chest and fell to the ground. Her smile fell and her eyes were filled with concern.
"Are you alright?"
Lesker was panting hard so he couldn't reply to her. Ilan came out of the house behind her and immediately carried Lesker. They took him inside the house and treated him. His body ran with a high fever and his breathing was labored with every breath.
They managed to stabilize his condition when the woman used Magix to heal him. He was surprised. He never got sick but after seeing her, he had a fever? It was so strange. It felt like a spell. But normal spells didn't work on him. He guessed the spell on him was a high-level spell.
Just who would cast it?
"Are you okay?" she asked again. He nodded, the pain fading into a dull ache. His chest throbbed but he felt he could handle it.
"I was so worried when you just collapsed like that. I checked your body, I hope you don't mind"
"No, not at all. You saved my life"
"Yes. There was a presence of a high-level spell on you, nothing like what I've seen before. Do you have any idea who put such a spell on you?"
"No. I lost my memories. Is it dangerous?"
"I don't think so. You would need to see a mage supreme just in case"
"Okay. My name is Lesker. What's yours?"
"I'm Quella" she replied with a smile.
Fortunately for Lesker, no major accident like that happened after meeting Quella. After taking care of him, she went back to her house, leaving him to rest. After she left, the pain faded away slowly. It was a strange thing indeed that assuaged him but he didn't have anything to go on with. He could only take her advice and look for a mage supreme.
Mage supremes were rare in the country he lived in, even more so when he lived in a small village. He had to gather money and travel to the capital of the country he lived in to be able to see a mage supreme.
It seemed as if he had to accept the offer of the old man to take over the bookstore. Only then could he achieve his temporary goal. If he found what he was looking for and regained his memory, he could leave the bookstore to Yuli to manage.
He sighed. Ever since waking up on that mountain peak, his life had been spinning out of control, more than he cared to admit. He could only hope that there were no difficulties on his journey and he would find exactly what he was looking for.
The next day, when he had completely recovered, he went to the old man's place. It was in the early afternoon so the man was seated in front of the store, fanning himself. He smiled when he saw Lesker approach and offered him a seat.
"I wish to take you up on your offer"
"Oh. What made you change your mind?"
"I wish to travel to the capital to see a mage supreme. I want to be a traveling book merchant"
"Hmm, I see. That too is a good idea. I have a cart here that would be great for you after some repairs. When do you plan to leave?"
"By the start of next month. Please inform Yuli to get ready. As promised, I would train him to be my successor. Meeting a mage supreme might help me regain my memories"
"Alright. I would register you as the new owner of my bookstore in the Lord of this land's office tomorrow. I would also get a permit for you and hand over the books you can trade. I'm sure you can copy books now"
"I know the appropriate spells. Thank you"
"You're welcome. I trust you"
"Well, I would work hard to be worthy of your trust. I truly appreciate what you have done for me"
"I know you won't let me down. Come see me tomorrow evening. Everything would be ready by then"
"Alright"
