Reward

Time flew. It has been ten days since Dev started the treatment of Regina's father.

Dev also found out the name of the patient. He was stunned when he found out that he was treating Khandi. Serena has told him about all the famous people in Nehan, and Khandi was one of them.

The treatment has been going on for ten days, but still, Dev hasn't got proof whether his treatment is effective or not.

His practice with rose is also going well. He has become powerful due to his technique getting better. Most of the Higher-level beings don't involve themselves in hand-to-hand combat, but getting better in battle will only benefit him in the future, so he didn't stop the practice.

Regina offered to let Dev stay at her house for the duration of the treatment, but Dev declined. If he lives with them, his secret will be revealed, that he is a Level 1 healer. Putting himself in a crisis was not something Dev wanted to do.

He was meditating in the clinic to force open the energy barrier of the Sacral chakra. He absorbed the energy from the atmosphere and bombarded that energy to the energy barrier. He failed to break the energy barrier. He tried again; he failed again. The bombardment didn't stop. The attempt finally bore fruit when suddenly the energy barrier shattered, and Prana started flowing from the second chakra point.

The Sacral chakra is related to the element water. Dev felt gentle energy flowing through his body. This chakra is associated with creative energy, so he couldn't sense any particular growth in his body. He didn't stop meditating just because the energy barrier broke.

It was time for the combat and archery training. The results were the same as on previous days. Neither the archery nor the combat matches went well for Dev. Despite being able to defend himself against Rose in hand-to-hand combat, he lacked the experience needed, even to compete with her in archery, much less beat her.

Time flew. Dev arrived early in the morning as usual for the treatment of Khandi.

"Chhiss..chhiss," When he started transferring Prana, he heard a sound. The intensity of the sound increased as the transferred amount increased.

There wasn't any change in Khandi's body, yet Dev was sure that his treatment is working. He was certain that the sound he heard was because of the fight between Prana and the poison.

If there is a fight, then that means there is going to be a winner. There were zero chances of Dev winning alone, but the Prana will rejuvenate the immune system of Khandi. Khandi's immune system and the addition of Prana have a possibility of defeating the poison.

"There is good news," Dev told Regina, who was standing on the same spot she always stands on while looking tensely. It has been many days since the treatment started, yet the tense expression during the treatment didn't go away.

Suddenly, hope rose in Regina's heart when she heard Dev.

"What's the good news!" Regina exclaimed.

"It seems my treatment is effective on your father. It has been able to affect the poison," He told her while pointing out at Khandi.

"Does that m-mean my fa-fat-father can wake up?" She asked stutteringly.

"Yes, I don't know. How long would it take, but your father can wake up in the future," Dev chuckled.

Regina rushed toward her father, but Dev forcefully stopped her. "What are you doing? That poison can hurt you," Dev berated her.

"Sorry, I got carried away," She apologized and then turned around to take a look at her father.

Her eyes became moist seeing her father. "You'll get better soon, father. We'll be able to practice smithing together again," She murmured.

"Okay, Today's treatment is done. I'll come back tomorrow at the same time for further treatment," Dev said to Regina and started leaving.

"WAIT,"

Dev's steps stopped because of the sudden shout. Confused, he turned around and questioningly looked at Regina.

"Wait for a second," She said and then ran somewhere.

Confused, he just stood there and waited for Regina to come back. It didn't take long for her to come back. She came back with a sack in her hand. He understood why she told him to wait?

"Look, there is no need for this. I am just doing my job. You don't have to reward me for doing my job," Dev told her while his eyes didn't move away from the bag. He wanted the sack, but his conscience told him to not take it. It's very difficult for someone like him to become shameless.

Regina smiled and said, "I've gotten a piece of good news after so long. I have to reward you for this."

"But-"

Regina cut Dev off in between and forced the pouch into his hands. Dev tried to push away the sack, but Regina was adamant. He finally took the bag with a helpless smile on the outside, but on the inside, he was dancing because the bag looked heavy.

He opened the pouch. His eyes grew wide open due to seeing so much gold. He started counting with shaking hands. "One, two, three, four...….thirty,.....f-fifty one,...o-one hun-hun-hundred."

He lost his composure seeing so many gold coins, even though on the Earth, his family was one of the richest in the country. There couldn't have been a better time than this for the arrival of money.

"This is too much. I can't take this," Even though Dev needed money, but that doesn't mean he'll accept anything. He tried to force the pouch back to Regina.

"It is nothing. If you can treat my father fully, I'll give you so many gold coins that you can buy half of Kajiya," Regina said sternly.

"This may be nothing for you, but it is too big an amount for me to take as a reward. I can't take it, no matter what you say," Dev still refused to accept the money.

"I won't take it back. I've already rewarded you. If you don't want it, you can throw it or donate it to someone. It's your money now," Regina also refused to take back the money.

Then, they both stared at each other eyes for a brief amount of time. "Okay, you win," The first to move the eye was Dev. Regina smiled after Dev accepted the pouch.

Dev left after getting the pouch. He would never throw away or donate this money. He was only being a gentleman that's why he wasn't accepting the money.
