Project Sparrow

As tensions rise between nations, millions of people are caught in the middle. Death tolls rise and the value of human life is discarded as governments solve their disputes by throwing as many bodies as they can at each other. The world now feeding the flames of destruction with hatred and death, faces yet another world war. In the midst of it all, several nations improved their technology and incorporated it within their weapons. The Republic of Lanston, formerly France, Belgium and Germany, led the arms race and began a secret supersoldier program as a trump card to win the impending war. Taking disabled veterans and soldiers who are no longer fit for combat and turning them to lab rats for body augmentations. Wanting to turn them to mindless killing machines, failing and killing most of their experiments in the process then calling them a necessary sacrifice to achieve power over all their rivals. Enter Hilbert Straüss, one of the few who had successful augmentations and is considered the strongest out of the program. They operated under the grid and were mainly used before to kill anyone who opposes Lanston's government. As the war slowly creeps up on the world, Lanston activates the program once more and requested to have all available field agents to be attached to the military. The world will now see a new generation of weapons that will forever change the face of warfare.

Siege Weapons

Hilbert stepped inside and watched as Eugene, Richard, Tristan and Jeremy chased each other up the stairs. Edward went inside the kitchen and looked around the cupboard's, searching for something to eat. Hilbert decided to take a seat on the couch right next to a bookshelf, he felt comfortable and sleep slowly crept up.

"Looks like even a super soldier like him needs sleep from time to time." Edward mumbled as he placed a few canned goods on the floor.

"Edward, this place only has two beds and the three kids already took them." Tristan states as he walks down the stairs.

"That's fine, we can always sleep on the chairs or the floor." Edward replies as he sat down on the carpet.

"Hilbert looks beat, I guess we all are. We haven't had proper sleep for a week now." Tristan said as he sat down, leaning against the wall.

"We should rest while we can. Once preparations are complete, we'll be at it again." Edward added before laying down on his side.

Hilbert could hear Edward and Tristan having a conversation but he couldn't understand anything they said. He was asleep but only partly, still aware of his surroundings and able to spring up in a blink of an eye. Jacques on the other hand is with Roger, planning their upcoming assault on the enemy stronghold. Frustrated of the odds they're facing, a battle of a hundred to one.

"This is a risky operation, Jacques." Roger points out.

"I know, but they're counting on us. If we take that position, the enemy's supply line will be cut hence crippling their forces." Jacques argued.

"This castle is old but if I recall correctly, not even the Soviets were able to take a step inside during their intervention in the Libyan-Algerian war." Roger added.

"We have something the Soviets didn't back then. We have Hilbert." Jacques states.

"The kid? What can he even do?" Roger asked as he sat down.

"We'll attack in the cover of night, I'll send in Hilbert and a squad of men first. Their job is to rig the ammo depot with explosives and as they do, your unit will begin attacking from a distance outside the effective range of the enemy artillery pieces." Jacques explained while he pointed to the map.

Roger nodded and continued to listen to Jacques' plan. Once finished, Roger went back to his unit to debrief them and Jacques stayed behind to inform high command over the radio.

"Yes sir, we will move out by 1700 hours." Jacques relayed the plan through the radio.

Jacques walked out of the tent and informed one of the soldiers to relay the departure orders to the rest of the battalion. The soldier went around and told everyone the time of departure, the ones he told then spread the word to everyone else. Once word got to Edward and the others it was already dark.

"Captain, major wants everyone to know that we leave by 1700 tomorrow." The soldier announced from the doorway.

"Understood, I'll tell the others. Dismissed." Edward replied as he stood up.

The soldier saluted and walked away, back to his squad. Edward climbed the stairs and woke up Richard and the other two. He told them to get ready for the assault and prepare their equipment to which the three nodded and sprang up from their beds. As Edward climbed back down the stairs he sees Hilbert head out the door while Tristan grabs his things.

"Tristan, let's get going. We still have to resupply our half tucks." Edward says as he jogs out of the building.

"I'm right behind you, Captain." Tristan replied as he ran after Edward.

"Corporal, aren't you coming with us?" Eugene asked Jeremy as he finished buttoning up his coat.

"I'm going with Hilbert, he seems to get the most action during battles." Jeremy looked back before waving his hand and running towards his squad.

"Genie, I'm going to be on the front lines again for this assault. I want you to do your best in supporting our boys out there." Richard smiled and intertwined their hands.

"I will, Captain. Just promise me that you'll come back." Eugene replied with a smile.

"I promise...and one more thing." Richard added.

"Yes? What is it, Captain?" Eugene curiously inquired.

"I...nothing, just stay safe." Richard chuckled before letting go of Eugene's hand and running towards his Jeep.

Eugene smiled once more before walking towards the other medics. Jacques meanwhile headed towards where Hilbert was and called him over. He ordered him to gather a squad and follow him for a debriefing. Hilbert nodded before calling out to Jeremy and his squad. They followed Jacques to the back of an empty half truck where he explained their participation in the plan. Jeremy hyped himself up for it was his second time infiltrating an enemy position.

"Take out their ammo depot and get the hell out. You don't have to raid the entire castle complex, crippling them is enough." Jacques stated.

"Roger that, Major." Jeremy replied with a grin plastered on his cheeks.

"This is going to be a quiet operation. The doctor sent over another crate and he said that the contents are prototypes so check those out, Hilbert." Jacques ordered.

"I will, those are most likely the silenced weapons that they were developing before the war." Hilbert replied before heading towards one of the logistic trucks.

"Silenced weapons? Those are real?!" A soldier screamed out.

"If Hilbert's real then those are real, dumbass!" Another soldier shouts as he smacks the guy next to him.

Hilbert comes back carrying a crate with the logo of Basch Corporation on one side. He opens it and it was filled with hay and in between the hay were the guns that Jacques told them about. Hilbert handed each of them a gun before taking two guns vaguely resembling the Welrod.

"These guns are quieter compared to the standard ones we use but are significantly more inaccurate because of the new low velocity ammunition they use." Hilbert explained to them as he shows them a bullet.

"That means these are for close quarters, corrections?" Jeremy asked as he inspects his gun.

"Precisely, only shoot when you're sure that your round will find it's target." Hilbert replied.
