Prisoners of Fate

"I've always been here, I heard your cries those whispers are mine. I know your pain and I know you." The shadow replied back but it left more unanswered questions arising to the point where Helena didn't know which one to ask first. ..... Trigger warning: not suitable for sensitive viewers.

Chapter 1

Her hands hovered over the gun. The echoes of the voices got louder causing her to become more on edge. She stumbled upon the piles of dirty laundry lying scattered on the cemented floor, struggling to catch her balance as she made her way to the dressing table. She looked at her reflection in the mirror undoubtedly shocked by the image that greeted her.

In the eyes of everyone else she was just a girl missing a screw or two but to her she was stuck on the edge of insanity at a breaking point where no one could save her. Did she actually need saving?

Or just saving from where the longing of each breath she took she desperately wished to be her last, or the prickling sensation of blood to be distant as her body became cold until her last breath was taken, ending her misery of a life.

Looking at her image her shocking blood red eyes stared back at her. Her pale coloured skin showed exactly just how little she had been eating. She wiped at the blood running down her neck. She frantically tried getting a hold of what looked to be a knife twisted painfully in the side of her neck.

If only she had known everything the

mirror was reflecting was only just a figment of her imagination but when it came to imagination hers grew far beyond what she could comprehend.

Inside she was a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and the disease that coursed through her blood stream caused it all.

I shut the book titled with the bold lettering PRISONERS OF FATE' and placed it gently down on my nightstand by my bedside. I turned off the lamp switch and rolled up the covers to my shoulders. Curling myself into a ball I closed my eyes and let sleep overtake me, but as always it never came easily.

Sighing after hours of uselessly tossing and turning I sit up and switch the lamp back on. Picking up the book again I page to where I last stopped.

Helena walked down the hallways with her head down. She never ever made eye contact with the students around, mainly because everyone laughed at her for her being the way she was. How could she explain to them that she herself didn't know what was happening. Walking down the hallways she stopped in her tracks when blood splattered across the lockers caught her attention. She shook her head at the thought of it being just a delusion but when the whispers arose she trotted her way towards the girls bathroom.

Once inside the bathroom she starred at her reflection in the large rectangular mirror hung by the washbasins. "You know you want to do it." A barely audible whisper reached her ears. "You have no one."

She closed hear ears and crouched down against one of the bathroom stalls. "No one wants you here." Tears started pooling in her eyes and she brought her knees up to her chest.

The bathroom door flew open and in came a group of girls, or rather they be called the rich brats. With a quick glance at the girl crouched down crying they made their way to the mirrors. Powdering their faces and applying fresh provocative lipstick to their lips.

There not so inaudible whispering caused jabs at Helena's heart. There words ranged from her as they would put it being a joke and an unwanted bundle of mess no one ever wants. How close to the whispers there words was, was completely astonishing but in the end nothing good came out of it as Helena was still...well Helena.

From her blurry teared eyes she saw a shadow crouched exactly in front of her. Helena being distracted by the words of the whispers had no clue that the group of girls had made there hasty exit, not wanting to be close to a weirdo and freak like her.

The whispers stopped and Helena let out a sigh of relief wiping away her tears she finally thought that her episode was over but when her eyes locked with those of a midnight sky she knew she was wrong. Her breath caught in her throat as her mouth hung open from what seemed to be shock or maybe surprise.

The shadow before her was covered with black clothing and those eyes left her paralyzed on the spot. The hand of the shadow before her gently caressed her cheek and wiped away stray tears that fell. Shutting her mouth at her impoliteness she tried to mouth words but they never seemed to come out. The gentle caress of the shadow before her was what really had her bones shaking from within.

Its soft gentle touch had her feeling something she hadn't felt in many years. A feeling. The first feeling she had ever felt from long since. Hope. Hope was what she felt, but she couldn't shake the feeling of it being close to the end.

"Hush, don't cry, those whispers are forced to drive anyone insane. Don't give in. Fight." Helena couldn't believe her ears. Those words which came from the smooth deep touched voice before her had her thinking otherwise, because for the first time Helena had someone to talk to, someone who could guide her or so she thought.

"How do you know about the whispers?" Helena chocked out still in disbelief at what she heard.

"I've always been here, I heard your cries those whispers are mine. I know your pain and I know you." The shadow replied back but it left more unanswered questions arising to the point where Helena didn't know which one to ask first.

"You-you were, you were always here?" Helena was left confused how could the shadow have been here if she never saw it once."

Those whispers are mine. What had it meant by that? Helena left with thoughts on a constant run barely heard what the shadow had said.

"Those whispers are me and I am you. I'll be back." As if a lamp was switched on and in a blink the gentle caress was gone. Everything was gone and that hope diminished and what was left of it was the same old broken Helena.

Helena stood up and made her way to the washbasin washing her puffy swollen red eyes with cold water. Closing the tap Helena looked into the mirror and for a split second she could've sworn she saw those midnight sky eyes staring back at her but when those whispers echoed louder than before she knew that she was mistaken.

"You'll never be able to escape."

With that Helena broke down into fresh tears. Her legs gave in on her and she found herself lying on the floor in crumbled ball weeping her heart out and only one thought rang louder than the whispers breaking her down.

How will I ever make it stop.
