Chapter 35: Consequences
*Maria*
The darkness fades away but the aching pain remains. I open my eyes to a familiar golden ceiling. I'm lying on one of those snow-white beds in the nurse's office again, aren't I?
"M-Maria?"
I turned my head and see a sight that feels me with warmth. Aren next to my bed, watching over me like a guardian angel.
"Hey, you." I say.
"A-Are you really here and awake?"
I force my aching hand to move up to his face. I go to caress his face but instead, I do something else when I notice his hardened expression.
"Boop."
I boop his nose. He looks at me like I'm some drunk friend making a fool of themselves. But I think he needed it.
"Why are you looking so scary? I'm alive aren't I?" I asked while trying to keep my voice light.
He says nothing but his expression does soften. He takes my hand and kisses it. The shudders that went through my body from that alone. Wow.
"I think you need to kiss it again. I think it will feel better if you do."
"Of course."
