Chapter 49 : A Trace of Hope

*Trinity's POV*

Matthew checked traffic and swerved over to come to a halt as fast as possible on the side of the highway. My hands slammed against the dashboard as we jerked to a stop.

"What the fuck was that?!" Matthew asked in a panicked voice. "Does that lady have our baby?!”

Matthew was truly frightened. I don't think I had ever seen him look scared like this. But I couldn't even respond. I was in shock. Had that really happened. Did she really have our baby?

Why? I wanted to cry, to let it consume me, but I couldn’t.

I jumped as my phone began to ring again. Matthew grabbed it out of my hand and answered it before I could even process it. He tapped the speaker icon so that we could both hear it again.

"Who is this?" Matthew asked quickly, still sounding worried.

"Um, hello, this is Jessica from the West Heartford Central Hospital. I was looking for a Trinity Mathers."

"Yes, that's me. I'm here," I said quickly.
