Chapter 17

Luna, Rex, and Toya fill up the new camp with supplies while Dodge explains how the comm phones work.

"Throw up any black gunk lately?" Colin asks.

The group of 20 nod.

"Good, use these purifiers once a week until they run out. Eat your food with caution. We can't always give you food, stay on high alert and prepare for battle." Colin speaks his final words before leaving.

At home there's a conflict between Lily's group of women and the generation one group.

"Why are only the children allowed inside? What are you doing to our children!" A woman yells for attention.

Toya picks Luna to go solve the problem.

Luna stands between the two women, "One! You came unexpectedly and shifting things around to make room for you was interrupted by an attack." She says to the woman from the Generation one group.

She points to the underground parking entrance, "In case of an emergency this is the fastest route to the bunker, everyone else already sleeps full time in the bunker including the children. Only security are on the upper floors, if you think being out here makes you fodder for the infected, be my guest, move in and see how fast you'll make it to the bunker from inside the building."

She looks at the woman waiting for her remark.

"Well, move your things faster." The woman comments and walks away.

Luna glares angry with the woman's attitude and calls Jet to move the women inside the house to their rooms, and they will sleep outside.

The women celebrate their win happy they are now inside.

Toya lays next Luna and looks up at the blurry sky, "I'm craving cake." He says looking at Luna.

Luna sits up and looks Toya in the eyes, "Is that your crappy way of asking if I'm okay?"

Toya sits up and nods, "Yeah. You were really angry, I just want to make sure I'm not sharing a room with you grumpy. I hate it, because you end up crying."

Luna rests her head on Toya's chest after tackling him to the ground, "I'm okay, and I just want to sleep we'll have cake tomorrow if you'd like."

Toya smiles brushing Luna's hair, "Sleep up then."

The generation 1 women wake up thinking they get first dibs on the showers, but to their surprise everyone is ready, had breakfast and now working a full job on security.

The woman that argued yesterday named Susan walks to Split working on the Comms.

"Hey? Did you already eat?" She asks.

Split nods, "Yup, I ate pancakes and a slice of cake. You guys woke up late so the cake is finished. Excuse me, I'm working over here."

She walks around the mall and finds the children in the arcade playing games.

"A fully functional arcade? Impressive." Her daughter Sarah says talking to Jet.

"This is all thanks to your tech guy Thomas. We had no idea how to operate these or turn them on." Jet responds.

He stands guard holding a gun, with a shield in place and a nano wall installed.

"Is there food in here?" Sarah asks.

Jet nods, "Crates in case of emergencies yes. We'd rather these games were outside. Since they're in here we'll plan for the worst case scenario."

Sarah nods giggling romantically at the straight faced Jet telling the kids they only get an hour. Too many infected are outside.

Susan spies for the whole hour until Jet keeps his promise and locks the place up.

Susan goes outside asking the men if they want to move inside.

One of the youths named June declines.

"It's safer here than in there. Last time we were evacuated it just took entering the parking lot to secure our safety. Not everyone can walk through walls Susan." June says.

Susan finds her daughter and asks where Sharon is.

"Outside. They are making hot dogs for the elderly and the toddlers. If there's leftovers we can get some." Sarah says smiling.

Susan goes outside and finds Colin grilling the hot dog while the others butter the hot dog buns.

"Why are only the children and the elderly getting hot dogs?" She says glaring at Colin.

Colin looks down at her, "Who told you that?" He asks and then goes back to grilling the meat.
