Chapter 28

"Within the week we've been training. Magby and I have made good progress in some of his movesets." Caleb moved closer to Magby with his grandfather following behind. "Mainly, we focused on training his Flamethrower, Rock Smash, and our own take of the Flame Wheel move."

"In terms of proficiency, we made a breakthrough on his Flamethrower just before you left. It has now reached intermediate-level. Rock Smash has also been improved greatly, reaching the peak of basic-level proficiency."

"Morever, Flame Wheel just needed a little bit of training before reaching the standard of intermediate-level proficiency." With those words, Caleb felt quite proud.

It wasn't easy to train all this moves and elevate their proficiency levels. One would need constant training and battle experience to improve this stuff after all.

There were no short cuts. Caleb and Magby persevered every day so that they could quickly grow stronger.

The strength of a Pokemon Trainer was not only dependant on the ability of their pokemon but also closely tied to three aspects.

The first was the pokemon trainer's competency in training his pokemon.

For example, if a pokemon trainer who had a fire-type but doesn't know how to further nurture the pokemon's development in regards to their typing after reaching a certain level.

It would take the pokemon a few days to an unimaginable time to further enchance it's strength if the trainer doesn't properly think of a solution.

Otherwise, they could only ask for consulting services from expert trainers online which would mostly would cost a hefty amount of money to do.

Of course they could also try their luck on finding solutions on training guides, but those usually only contain solutions for easy to not so hard problems to solve.

Basically, a trainer had to think of a solution themselves if they couldn't or aren't willing to spend money on the option of consulting.

The second was the pokemon's skill proficiency on the moves they learned.

Skill proficiency are have a differentiated by their level. From lowest to highest- Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert and Sublime.

The highter the level of proficiency on the move, the better mastery they have over it.

For example, flamethrower. At first when Magby grasped the move for the first time, it was only a much better version of Ember, except that it had a little bit of higher output and damage than the latter.

When it had reached Intermediate-level a few days ago however, Ember just couldn't compare to it at all. It was now much more condensed and the impact from the move when it landed on a boulder was terrifying.

The sign of an intermediate flamethrower was a much more condensed flame that it would be much redder at it's core and have an aura of orange hue. The firepower also increased and the temperature rising that it could melt metal upon a few seconds of impact.

Caleb and Magby felt estatic about this, especially Magby as he acted all smug that day.

Even though it was only at the initial phase of intermediate-level, it's power was several times more when compared to when it was just at the basic-level, even the peak of basic-level couldn't compare to it.

One could only imagine the power of a pokemon that could grasp a move with a higher proficiency than the first two levels.

The third was the potential of the pokemon.

Most pokemons could evolve, but many would be stumped and we're unable to because of their inadequate potential.

Pokemons who had a much higher potential could evolve much easily than it's peers. Not only that, but the benefits of having a higher potential doesn't only lied in that.

The proportion of their strength increasing by natural growth are also different in degree of their potential's development. Which made them stronger since the day they hatched compared to pokemons with weaker potential.

Their spirit are also nurtured much more by the natural energies they constantly absorb in the world. Grass element energies are absorbed by grass-types from nature and the dominant dragon types absorb the natural dragonic energies released by the laws of nature.

When their spirits are nurtured their mental understanding are also much higher. Making their progress in understanding the various difficulties of learning and improving their proficiency much easier.

This helped them even learn moves that contradicts their typing! There was even a case where a water-type learn fire-type move! Which doesn't go by science at all!

It shocked the world.

Various researchers couldn't solve this problem at all, which it even frustrated the great minds of various famous professors. Left with no choice they could only blame it on the pokemon's freakish potential.

The first of the three was the development and stock knowledge in training of the pokemon trainer's abilities.

For the second and third, it was the accumulation of hard work or a pokemon's inborn potential.

"That's good news." Cesar nodded in praise. "Your Magby has green-potential after all, which has a dominant blue in it. It isn't a stretch to say it has blue potential."

Cesar thought for a moment before saying. "I have some resources here that could elevate your Magby's potential so that it could officially became a blue one. I'll send it to you after we're finish here."

Caleb jumped in happiness. He quickly rushed to his grandfather's embrace. "Thank you, thank you, grandpa!"

"Magby, come here and thank grandfather."

Even though Magby was confused, he still complied to his trainer's order.

He bowed and poketalked his thanks.

Cesar chuckled happily too. He felt proud that his grandson was very hardworking. He have high expectations of him.

Even though it would hurt him a little to give him some resources from his vault, he felt responsible seeing that Caleb was so driven in his training.

"Alright, alright. Now that we are done. Let's start our training." Cesar said with a sinister smile.

Caleb and Magby both shuddered seeing that all too familiar smile. They looked at each other and couldn't help but share the same thought of wanting to escape.

However, they asked for this so they could only sigh and walked to the center of the training facility.

Waiting on the beatdown his grandfather would give him and his Magby.

"Come out, Pyroar!" With a toss, a Pokeball spun in the air and released a fire-type lion pokemon that when it appeared, made the temperature released from Magby looked like a burning candle compared to a blazing volcano.
