Chapter 45

Tactic Trapezoid 1 was, like its namesake, a trap. Elgyem was a naturally slow pokemon and Confusion as her only stab move had a limited range. With his superior six starred speed, Vioarr and Jax wanted to lead the Elgyem into their trap! Running around the field earlier while he was preparing his Protect and Endure, Vioarr also covered the field with Venom Drench and Toxic Spike!

Not knowing what Jax meant by his weird command, Olivia went on the defensive. "Gem! Use Guard Split and Power Split! Then Teleport above him and use Zed Headbutt!" Even though Elgyem was a special attacker, with the use of Power Split, her attack will raise up to the average of both pokemon's attack stat! For example, a normal Elgyem had an attack state of 55 while a normal Nidorino had an attack stat of 72. The average of the two stats came up to be 63.5!

Hearing her trainer's commands, Gem distanced herself so that she could prepare Guard Split and Power Split. Since both moves were the most used throughout all of her training, they had long since reached MAX level! Power Split and Guard Split were kind of special as it didn't buff or debuff a pokemon's stats by a certain stage. With it at MAX level, Power Split allowed the user to gain the full attack and special attack of the pokemon it was using it against; the same as for Guard Split except gained the opponent's defense and special defense!

Six stars in ATK, five stars in DEF, four stars in both SP ATK and SP DEF, Vioarr was going to be in trouble if Elgyem was able to borrow his stats! Jax knew that panicking wouldn't help their situation, so he changed tactics once again. "Vioarr, forget Trapezoid 1! Go with Triangle 1! We have to take them out before the Elgyem steals your stats!"

"On it, Brother!" Rushing off towards the alien looking pokemon, Vioarr used every single star's worth of potential his six starred speed stat and ran towards the Elgyem! Even though tactic Square 1 was banned by themselves since yesterday, that didn't mean they couldn't combine any more moves. If the duo limited the amount of moves they poured into one, they can still unleash a stable but much stronger combined move!

With her slow speed, Elgyem couldn't run away fast enough and she was still in the middle of casting her Guard Split and Power Split! If she cancels them now, she still wouldn't have time to prepare a Teleport! Seeing the purple lizard charging towards her, Gem casted her maxed-out Growl to try and mitigate the damage she would receive.

Seeing as how Elgyem wasn't planning on running away, Vioarr combined his maxed-out Thrash with Sucker Punch and rammed into the Elgyem! But, Vioarr was the one who was sent flying!? Looking on in confusion, Jax stared at the Elgyem who also flew back the same amount and noticed that there was a flashing screen in front of it! 'Reflect! So that's what it was! It reduces the amount of damage a pokemon takes from physical attacks by up to 50 percent! I just don't know what level it's at. If it's also maxed-out, we'll be in deep trouble!'

"Gem! Are you okay!?"

"Mhm, yeah! I still hurts but I can keep going!"

Hearing her partner's voice in her head, Olivia let out a breath of relief. Ever since she could remember, Elgyem has always been by her side. She hated seeing the one being she had unconditional trust in injured but she knew it was necessary, she had to become a stronger trainer no matter what. Although she loved her parents a lot, Olivia felt like they were hiding something from her. Something about her past that she couldn't remember. Even if she loved with her whole heart, that didn't necessarily mean she trusted them with her whole heart.

"Good! Fire a Psybeam while Nidorino is still down!"

Preparing the move her trainer wanted her to use, Gem concentrated all of her power into Psybeam knowing that this may very well be the last move she could use. Seeing the amount of power Elgyem was gathering, Jax looked at his little brother and issued his commands. "Vioarr, get up! A big one is coming! Use Dig and go underground! Make a tunnel right under the Elgyem and then use Thrash plus Takedown!"

Following the plan, Vioarr did exactly that; he dug a hole and crawled his way towards the big headed pokemon that was able to fling him so far. Losing sight of their target, Elgyem canceled her Psybeam and waited for Vioarr to come back up onto the surface. Using her powerful brain, Gem was able to deduce that Vioarr would appear from right under her. Instead of teleporting away, she was going to lay her own trap. 'Hmph! Trying to take me down? I'll take you with me!' As such, she prepared a new move that hasn't been shown before during the whole competition!

Using his sensitive hears, Vioarr was able to locate where Elgyem was and made his way closer. As he was digging, he also prepared his Thrash and Takedown combination move dubbed TT so that he could use it as soon as he popped out of the ground. Finally right underneath the big headed pokemon, Vioarr used all his muscles and kicked off the floor, propelling himself like a rocket towards the surface. Breaking the surface of the ground, Vioarr instantly hit Elgyem before she could even react! But, he was also thrown back underground!

"Gem!!!"

"Vioarr!!!"

As the two trainers rushed towards their pokemon, one fainted and one whose current situation was unknown, the referee blew the whistle and signaled both trainers to step back. For the fairness of the competition, the referee couldn't allow the children to run up to their pokemons until the results were finalized in worry of back-handed plays. As the dust settled, Gem was still unconscious while Vioarr was no where to be seen. Right as the referee was about to blow the whistle and signal that it was a tie, a hand reached up out of the ground and pulled itself up! Vioarr was still conscious!

Right as he used TT against Gem, the blue, big headed pokemon casted the move she was preparing this whole time, Destiny Bond! The move didn't see much action so it was still relatively weak but normally, it should have made both pokemon faint! So why was it that only Gem fainted!? Finding the situation weird, Olivia stormed towards the referee and called foul play!
