Chapter 36

If each student fought their individual battles one after another, the competition would last for the whole week, so each bracket had their own separate battles happening all at the same time. Pokemon Academy was the number one school for a reason, with multiple battle fields, there was more than enough space for five different battles to be happening at the same time. Jax wouldn't be battling until two battles later, same with Ally, so he decided to pop by chat with her on the pretense that he was scouting potential opponents.

"Hey, beauty. Why are you sitting here all by yourself?" Even if it was super corny, with Jax's handsome, boyish face, he could have sworn, and it would have sounded nice coming out of his mouth.

"Hi, J-Jax. I'm not really close with a-anyone in the class, yet." Although Ally was still shy, after her PDA the other day, it was almost as if something clicked inside of her and fell into place! Her stuttering became a whole lot better, but she would still turn a shade pinker whenever she was too close to Jax.

"Not close with anyone in class? Wow, I guess I must not be anyone then."

"N-no! I didn't mean that. I just meant, well, you know, you looked busy talking to Vioarr and I didn't want to d-disturb the two of you."

"Haha! Don't worry, I was just joking with you, princess. Vioarr says hi, by the way."

"Mhm. I know. I heard him when you guys walked o-over."

"Huh? You heard him? Wait, you're a psychic, too!?"

Realizing her mistake, Ally brought two hands up to her mouth trying to take back the words that she had said seconds ago. "U-ummm. No? I mean, yes, but I promised mommy and daddy I wouldn't let anyone k-know!" With tears threatening to spill, Mewton glared that the boy responsible for his trainer's state of mind.

'That bastard! How dare he make my pretty princess cry! Who cares about the battle, I'll kill him now!' but before Mewton could do anything, he looked on in horror as his number one enemy reached over and…and grabbed his trainer's hands!?

"I'm sorry, Ally. I didn't know it was a big secret. Here, hold out your pinky finger." Dragging Ally's hand, Jax propped up his pinky finger and instructed Ally to do the same. Then, he interlocked their fingers together. "I pinky promise to Alexandra Clementine that I won't speak a word of this to neither person nor pokemon."

Dazedly looking at her fingers in the comfort of Jax's, Ally snapped back to the present and then briskly withdrew her hand with a face the same color as the top of a Pokeball. "O-okay. I'll trust you this o-one time. I take my promises very s-seriously!" Saying so, the shy, little girl scooped up the blue worm that was sending death lasers out of his eyes towards his enemy and ran off into the distance.

"Vioarr…"

"Mhm?"

"I never knew a girl's hands could be so soft. I thought my bed was soft but…I think I want to lay atop that soft skin for the rest of my life." Not knowing who else was listening, Jax spoke aloud staring at the back of his crush running away. If you looked closely, you could see Mewton struggling to get out of her grasp so that he could rush back towards the boy and do who knows what to him.

Up ahead, in the sky out of the academy's safety drone's detection range, an orange figure was floating stationary gazing down to the ground below. 'He grew up well. Doria did an amazing job raising him by herself. You would be proud, trainer.' Staying a couple seconds longer to gaze that the boy who reminded the figure so much of his trainer, it finally flew off into the distant, their destination? Unknown.

None the wiser, it was finally Jax's turn. So far, the sleepy head was the first of the five students to battle and come out victorious in his match. Since the other four's matches were further into the day, the next closest was Jax. 'I have to keep the momentum going. I just know that either of those other four will be match in the grand finale.' Thinking so, Jax stepped onto the stage, his first official battle that had an audience, even if the audience was only students and teachers.

"Trainee Jax, ready?"

"Always!"

"Trainee Gunter, ready?"

"Y-yeah!"

"Good, and…Battle!"

With that signal, it was finally time for Jax's big debut. Not wanting to show all of his cards, Jax summoned Vioarr but didn't say anything. His opponent, Gunter, summoned out his own pokemon, a rare Ralts that wasn't commonly seen around these parts. With both of their pokemon on the field, Jax continued to stay silent while Gunter ordered Ralts to use Hypnosis. It clearly wasn't maxed-out since it missed Vioarr who was just standing still. Frustrated, Gunter then ordered Ralts to use Charm.

'Mhm, so Ralts is at least level 24. I guess Gunter isn't too bad of a trainer. Sadly, he's only mediocre at best. None of Ralts move is doing any significant damage since they're all still low leveled. How can Ralts be at a quite decent level but have such low mastery?'
