The elderly woman's courtyard was small, and the garden lights emitted a soft glow. To the left and right of the main room were two bedrooms, along with a storage room and a kitchen.
As soon as Bruce entered the courtyard, a Novice-level Poochyena ran toward him, barking insistently. Combusken, upon seeing the Pokemon, casually observed it, recalling Emolga, and decided not to engage with the weak Poochyena.
"This is a guest, be polite," the elderly woman said, gently tapping Poochyena with her cane, causing it to lie down in a corner, ears drooping.
Suddenly, there were rapid footsteps outside the courtyard, followed by the creak of the door opening. A tall, slender girl appeared. She stood about 1.7 meters tall, wearing a short-sleeved shirt that revealed her porcelain-like smooth skin, and her long, naturally slightly curly hair was noticeable. A pair of obviously outdated sandals were worn under her slim calves, and her face was as delicate as a peach blossom.
The girl immediately saw Bruce. Clearly, she didn't understand the context of the contest and stood there, stunned.
And behind the girl, there was a small and charming Eevee following her.
[Pokemon: Eevee (Normal)
Ability: Danger Prediction
Qualification: Master
Level: Lv9]
Eevee stood beside the girl, its large brown eyes curiously studying Combusken on the other side of the path.
"Alice, this is a guest who will stay at our house tonight," the elderly woman explained with a smile.
Bruce smiled at the girl, then turned to the elderly woman and said, "Grandma, my name is Bruce Bayne, you can call me Bruce."
"Hello, my name is Alice Davies," the girl replied softly. In the dim light, she nodded slightly, her gaze fixed on the ground.
Bruce looked at Alice in surprise.
Are you introverted?
The elderly woman said, "Girl, cook something for Bruce and then clean the room next door."
Without waiting for Alice to accept, Bruce quickly declined, saying, "No need, grandma. I'm sorry to stay at your place; I've brought my own dry food."
He paused and then said again, "I'll clean later."
Hearing this, Alice lifted her delicate face and silently looked at Bruce. Although her clothes and pants appeared a bit dusty, they were obviously expensive, and with her delicate skin, she didn't seem like a rough person at first glance.
"I'll go now," Alice Davies said.
Before Bruce could stop her, Alice trotted to the kitchen, Eevee in her arms.
The elderly woman led Bruce into the main room and served him a glass of water. The room was quite empty, with tables, benches, and a television that seemed like it had been around for ages. It was like a world apart from Bruce's home in the city center.
"Alice has grown up with me since she was a child. Her family situation is quite special, and she rarely interacts with strangers, which is why she's a bit shy," the elderly woman said with a smile.
Bruce guessed that only the elderly woman and Alice lived in this courtyard, and the situation must be very special. But that was a family matter, so it wasn't something he should inquire about.
The elderly woman stared at Bruce and said again, "Bruce, I can tell you're a powerful trainer."
A powerful trainer...
Maybe I could accept that description a year later.
The elderly woman's eyes became cloudy, and she spoke slowly: "I have a ruthless request."
Bruce sat up slightly.
But then, the elderly woman turned her head to look toward the kitchen, sighed, and said, "Alice has been working very hard recently, and she successfully passed the university entrance exam."
"Her family is poor, and it's not easy for her to go to school. Now that she's been accepted to university, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
Bruce secretly sighed.
"Although she doesn't usually like to make a fuss, deep down she's a strong girl."
"Some time ago, her classmates told her that before entering university, there would be a military field training. The higher the level of the military training, the more points she could earn, and these points could be exchanged for tuition and even living expenses."
Bruce had heard of this before, but in his mind, those points could be exchanged for valuable resources or Pokemon.
But he never thought about it like this...
"This girl is very lucky. Not long ago, she found a small Eevee in the mountains and didn't need to spend money to buy a Pokemon."
Families like hers were not eligible to receive Pokemon and had to buy them on their own.
With the elderly woman's situation, buying a high-quality Pokemon was almost an illusion.
Fortunately, this girl was lucky enough to get a master-level Eevee.
No, it's not just good luck; it's obviously a lot of luck.
"This girl has been thinking recently about using this Eevee to achieve a good rank in the military field training and reduce some of her tuition fees."
"Without resources and without a specialized teacher, Eevee's progress is quite slow."
"I can tell you that even though this girl doesn't say anything, she must be very anxious inside."
"So, I want to ask you for a favor. Can you train this girl?"
Bruce wanted to refuse; after all, he was just a novice trainer. But when he saw the elderly woman's expectant eyes, he finally nodded.
After all, I'm a senior-level trainer, so it's reasonable to train a novice trainer.
The two talked for a while, and Alice brought the dish and walked into the main room. Her slightly wavy hair was tied in a bun, revealing a gentle oval face.
"Grandma, it's time to eat," Alice's voice was as soft as a mosquito's hum.
Soon, all three were sitting at the wooden table, with Poochyena and Eevee also eating the food prepared on the floor.
Only young Master Bayne would be extravagant enough to treat energy cubes as regular food for Pokemon.
Bruce thought for a moment and decided to take out a small pile of energy cubes and place them in front of Poochyena and Eevee.
"They're at a physical development stage that requires these essential nutrients."
Alice remained silent for a moment.
Everyone knew this truth, but reality doesn't reason with you.
Afterward, Bruce sat down in front of Alice, looked at her seriously, and said, "After eating, I'll help you train."
Alice was stunned for a moment and turned to look at the elderly woman, still dazed.
The elderly woman nodded toward Alice and said with a smile, "I asked the young man to train you."
Upon hearing this, Alice's cheeks flushed, and she silently started to stir the rice a little faster.
After finishing the meal, the elderly woman felt uncomfortable with her legs and feet, so she stayed in the courtyard to rest. Alice walked ahead and took Bruce to the open space where he was going to camp earlier.
The night had fully enveloped the world; the night was everywhere, the distant mountains were indistinct, and from time to time, the barking of dogs could be heard from the lonely village.
A lamp hung outside the courtyard, illuminating the entire open space.
Bruce crouched down and observed Eevee closely.
After a while, he stood up, looked at Alice, and said, "Your Eevee has very good aptitude, please train it well."
"Oh, thank you, thank you," Alice stammered, her face slightly flushed.
Bruce saw this scene and secretly sighed; she was more introverted than before and seemed like someone with social anxiety.
"Since you want to get a good rank in the military field training, we need to figure out how the field training will take place," Bruce said, crossing his arms slowly.
"Although I'm not very clear about the field training, I know a few things."
"If you want to get a good rank in the military field training, you must master the skill of surviving in the field, and secondly, you need a strong Pokemon. Both are indispensable."
"Setting aside the first point, you might be better than me. As for the second point, I'll spend the night teaching you how to train Eevee better."
Alice's face was tense as she listened attentively.
"Eevee wants to gain great strength, the most important thing is to evolve, but right now, obviously, you can't meet this point," Bruce said.
Alice silently nodded.
As far as she knew, the three simplest evolutionary forms of Eevee required evolution stones, and it was obviously impossible for her to meet this point.
"Therefore, we can only find ways to improve Eevee's current strength."
Bruce then shared his training methods and experiences with Torchic first. His training methods were carefully considered, taking into account the Pokemon's development in all aspects. They were very scientific and had achieved very good results.
Alice took out a pen and notebook and furrowed her brow cutely as she wrote and drew.
On the other hand, Combusken personally explained Eevee's moves and abilities, such as [Quick Attack][Sand Attack], and so on.
Bruce didn't know how much time passed, but it was already late at night. Yawning, he stopped speaking and said, "That's all, you should understand it carefully; it should be very helpful for you."
"Thank you."
This time, it was rare that Alice didn't stammer; she lowered her head and thanked him sincerely.
"You're welcome, go to bed early, getting enough sleep is also very important for Pokemon."
Bruce waved his hand, turned around, and walked into the courtyard.
Behind her, Alice hugged Eevee in
her arms, her eyes soft and warm.
The next day.
Alice got up early in the morning, holding Eevee in her arms, and couldn't wait to try the training method last night.
The old woman came out and stopped her, "Girl, Bruce has already left."
Alice was a little surprised, then quickly ran to the next room, opened the door and saw that the quilt was already carefully spread out.
And on the corner counter, there's a can of energy cubes.
Alice walked over and saw a note under the jar, picked it up and glanced at it.
"I'm going first. Thank you for yesterday's dinner. It tastes really good. I told you all about the training method. You'd better use it with the energy cube here. I wish you a bright future. -- Bruce."
The note in his hand suddenly slipped out of his hand, and a gust of wind blew in, rolled the note up and flew out of the room, into the blue sky and into the distance.
Bruce was walking towards the urban area of the northern city of Fairbay, feeling the breeze blowing over his fingertips, he reached out to catch a fallen leaf.
City of Faibay, we are almost here.
