Owning a Squirtle already showed that Wang Miao's family wasn't ordinary.

The Pokémon Mystery Dungeons had only descended about two centuries ago.

While Pokémon had become widespread, owning a starter like Squirtle was still a mark of privilege. Most average families could only afford a basic bird Pokémon as their starting partner.

The saying went: Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will be invincible.

This was Charmander's debut battle, and Hikaru couldn't afford to lose!

He immediately activated Insight Eye to check Squirtle's stats:

Wang Miao wasn't taking this lightly either. He was determined to win.

Since obtaining Squirtle three months ago, Wang Miao had been training it diligently. Squirtle had reached the peak of the Beginner tier but was stuck at the threshold of breaking into the Ordinary tier.

He hoped this intense battle could push Squirtle past its limit.

Hikaru had watched many Pokémon battles on TV, but commanding one himself filled him with excitement.

A high-speed jet of water shot toward Charmander, showcasing Squirtle's rigorous training.

"Dodge behind the concrete pillar!" Hikaru called out without hesitation.

Telling a Pokémon to "dodge" wasn't as simple as shouting it—it required a bond of mutual understanding to guide them where to go.

The powerful Water Gun struck the pillar, shattering fragments of concrete and spraying debris everywhere.

Charmander perfectly avoided the attack, using the construction site to its advantage.

"Well done! Charmander, use Fire Rain!"

"Fire Rain?" Wang Miao hesitated.

The next moment, Charmander opened its mouth, gathering fiery energy. A basketball-sized fireball was launched toward Squirtle.

The fireball exploded midair, scattering like a fan-shaped rain of fire.

"A move adaptation!" Wang Miao exclaimed in disbelief.

"Squirtle, retreat into your shell!"

Realizing there was no way to dodge, Wang Miao ordered Squirtle to protect itself.

The flames struck Squirtle's shell directly. Steam rose as moisture from the shell evaporated under the heat, leaving everyone's eyes glued to the dissipating mist.

When the smoke cleared, Squirtle's shell was glowing red-hot. Its eyes spun with stars as it fainted on the spot.

"One hit? A one-hit KO?"

Wang Miao stared in shock.

Squirtle was a Water-type, naturally resistant to Fire moves. Despite this, it had been knocked out in a single attack.

This defied logic.

Could this Charmander already be at the Ordinary tier?

"Great job, Charmander!" Hikaru cheered, exchanging a fist bump with his partner.

He had prepared for a tough fight and even anticipated Charmander getting hurt. Yet, their first battle together turned out to be a seamless and triumphant display of teamwork.

"Thank you. You and Charmander are really strong!" Wang Miao said sincerely as he returned Squirtle to its Poké Ball.

Both Hikaru's command skills and Charmander's strength had far surpassed his expectations.

Though Wang Miao considered himself one of the top freshmen, this battle reminded him how far he was from the upperclassmen.

He now believed Hikaru was a senior—possibly a second- or third-year student.

There was no way someone who had just received their first Pokémon could be this strong.

If Hikaru could read his thoughts, he'd laugh and think, Charmander is barely a month old. It's still a baby!

Wang Miao seemed eager to ask more questions but decided against it. Squirtle needed medical attention, so he hurried off.

A flash of purple light illuminated the screen.

"What?!"

Hikaru's eyes widened. A flying entry? This was a game-changer.

"Well, Charmander, want to fly?" Hikaru teased, grinning.

"Char?"

Charmander tilted its head, confused.

Is the excitement from winning getting to his head?

I'm a Charmander, not a Charizard. I can't fly yet!

Despite Charmander's inability to speak, Hikaru could sense its thoughts.

Without hesitation, he swapped [Thick Skin] for [Fairy Wings] and applied it to Charmander.

A pair of delicate, translucent wings resembling fairy wings materialized on Charmander's back.

"Char?"

Charmander flapped its wings tentatively.

I can fly? I can actually fly!

Slowly but surely, Charmander lifted off the ground, its excitement evident. Though wobbly at first, it quickly began to adapt to controlling its new wings.

"Char!"

For any Pokémon temporarily incapable of flight, this entry was a hidden ace.

Watching Charmander's cautious yet enthusiastic attempts at flying, Hikaru smiled, knowing they now had a powerful trump card.

Hikaru's smile widened.
